What are your sources, Norman? Nice name, by the way.

I'm surprised to see Alfie and Ethan that high up. Possibly Lewis.

NormanNorris · 24/09/2010 22:27

National Statistics. I don't hear Ethan much but I often hear Alfie.

Where I live it is more like:

  1. Oliver
  2. Rory
  3. Lewis

DS (born 2008) is at no. 11 Nationally, and have never met another one around here.

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/09/2010 22:34

Very interesting. Does it say how many boys were born in 2008? I wonder what percentage of those boys have a top 20 name.

Marjee · 25/09/2010 10:26

I'm quite surprised and pleased that ds's name isn't on there. We chose a name that we didn't think was too popular but have since met a few children with the same name. We looked at the list at the registry office when we registered him and it was about number 80. Its a good idea that they are now combining the different spellings

governmentandreform · 25/09/2010 14:50

Me, too, Marjee. Most gratifying not to see ds' name. I bet dd's will be on the girls' one, though; although maybe not.

LittleMissWorryHead · 26/09/2010 19:02

Can I just point out - Jake is not the same as Jacob.

There I feel better already Wink

NormanNorris · 26/09/2010 20:27

But they are LMWH as most Jacobs go by Jake. Same goes for Samuel/Sam etc.

I will do the girls tonight.

That's v interesting, thanks for posting!

Surprised that still so many Jacks.

Also that George isn't higher up.

Disagree on the Jacob/Jake question: I'd see them as very different names.

NotanOtter · 26/09/2010 21:21

well done norm i always want to do that but never have patience

LittleMissWorryHead · 27/09/2010 11:21

Nah, most Jacob's don't go by Jake. Some might. But not most! Different name!

threeinthebed · 27/09/2010 22:19

James and Jamie are different names too. I've never met a James who is known as Jamie

hester · 27/09/2010 22:25

Interesting! Just marking my place for the girls' list. These things are very regional, aren't they? My dd's name was languishing near the bottom of the top 100 when I was pg with her, then shot up but still isn't top 10 in the national lists. Locally, though, you can't move for them. She has made three friends since we moved to the area a few months back: two of them have the same name as her, and one is very similar. It is definitely the new Mia.

NormanNorris · 27/09/2010 22:34

To be honest, grouping James/Jamie and Jake/Jacob doesn't really affect their position.

Haven't managed to do the girls list yet.

What's her name hester?

ChasingSquirrels · 27/09/2010 22:35

my cousin is a James known as Jamie

MaMoTTaT · 27/09/2010 22:43

not suprised by any of those - I know at least one or two of each of those names Grin

(the day my children's name appear in the list I will keel over in shock Wink_

threeinthebed · 27/09/2010 23:08

Sorry NormanNorris, I didn't mean to be pedantic :) A woman I know insists on calling my James Jamie, and it always sounds odd to me, as it just isn't his name. I have started to really emphasise his name whenever I speak to her, but it makes no difference whatsoever!

NormanNorris · 27/09/2010 23:19

I'm pedantic too so am understanding you :)

James much nicer then Jamie.
