I know there's the "Where's Waldo" connotation but I think that's quite cool. Any takers?

NOTHEROLDIE · 23/09/2010 09:36

I'll second that. Sorry but NO

meadowlarks · 23/09/2010 09:56

Haha. How predictable.

That's my sister's dog's name.

BunnyLebowski · 23/09/2010 10:00

I'm sorry for being mean. It's just the idea of being introduced to a baby called Waldo is comical to me. Its a comedy name.

I think you'd be inviting a lifetime of ridicule and bullying for your child by calling them Waldo.

Bunbaker · 23/09/2010 10:02

I'm sorry, but I sniggered when I saw the name as well. I agree with BunnyLebowski.

meadowlarks · 23/09/2010 10:02

It's fine, I did ask for your opinion after all Grin I prefer Walt anyway.

Now y'see I actually do like Walt/Walter. It's old man cool iyswim Grin.

meadowlarks · 23/09/2010 10:28

Yes, me too. The reason I asked about Waldo is because it was my great-grandfather's name and is pretty close to Walt/Walter. But clearly, I can't kill two birds with one stone without inviting hilarity. Wink

I knew this would be you. I just knew it.

Anyway,no absolutely not. Though it would give everyone who heard it a good laugh, but I doubt that's your desired effect.

LetThereBeRock · 23/09/2010 10:33

He'd be a shoo-in for The Magic Circle though with a name like that.

Stick with Walt. It's not to my taste but it won't make people laugh, though he may get sick of Disney references, it's much nicer, and it's still a tribute to your great-grandfather.

Rockbird · 23/09/2010 10:34

Waldo was the main character in a song by the Velvet Underground. He couldn't afford the fare to go to see his girlfriend so he parcelled himself up and posted himself to her. She got this great big parcel, couldn't cut through all the packing tape so plunged a sheet metal cutter into it and cut his head in half.

I'd say no personally.... :)

meadowlarks · 23/09/2010 10:40

LTBR - Oh dear, am I getting a reputation? Please bear in mind that I am unlikely to use the vast majority of names I think of. I like them one day and hate them the next.

Rockbird - Shock

Well I can recognise your threads easily,but I don't think that's such a bad thing,and I rather enjoy your name threads.Grin

Walter/Walt is lovely.

Janoschi · 27/09/2010 11:48

I'd name him Walter and call him Waldo until he gets old enough to protest. Then switch to Wal. I'm keen on the name too because Walter is a family name on both sides.

B52s · 27/09/2010 12:41

No.
