Not pregnant yet ( least don't think I am) and I've been thinking about names already (sad I know) and I do like it. Also like Daniel if we have another boy.
My friend said it's too 90's though.

I know a few my age (I am in my 30s) but I think it is lovely and due for a comeback...

foreverastudent · 22/09/2010 10:33

A bit trashy and downmarket IMO.

MyMamaToldMe · 22/09/2010 10:35

Danielle is lovely (my mother is a Danielle)

DastardlyandSmugly · 22/09/2010 10:39

I have a 23 year old cousin called Danielle and it was very popular when she was little.

BuntyPenfold · 22/09/2010 10:44

I don't dislike it, but know a family who regretted choosing it and now only call there DD Ellie. She is one of very many Ellies in school.

getabloodygrip · 22/09/2010 11:00

It's a bit "WAG" innit?

MamaLazarou · 22/09/2010 15:03

Lovely name.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2010 16:18

Downmarket is spot on, imo.

usualsuspect · 22/09/2010 16:22

I like it ..it was very popular in the 80s, but so what

ValiumSingleton · 22/09/2010 21:47

What about Daniela?, that seems a bit more contemporary. Being 'danni' for short would be awful though!

meadowlarks · 23/09/2010 08:47

Sorry, but I think it is very 90s and dare I say...a little chavvy. The chavviest girl when I was at school (mid 90s) was called Danielle nn Danni. She lost her virginity in a public loo behind Tesco and she had this constant phlegmy cough with she punctuated with with a gravelly sniffle brought on by the fact she smoked like a chimney from the age of 10. On paper, it's a nice name, but I think the connotations are too strong, personally.

getabloodygrip · 23/09/2010 09:49

Daniela is also awful.
It just rings out as Dan-yella-aaaaaa.
Ugh.

LouMacca · 23/09/2010 10:51

Love Daniel for a boy but think Danielle for a girl is awful. Its along the lines of Leanne and Stacey.

getabloodygrip · 23/09/2010 11:32

Agree, Daniel is a fine boy's name.

Kathleen123 · 23/09/2010 15:04

I like Danielle (nn Danni)

Bellbell · 23/09/2010 17:20

A lot of snobbery on here... ignore! Sounds French to me - I have a rather glamourous friend called Danielle who has French parents.

sparkleshine · 23/09/2010 23:16

Hmm mixed views, mostly bad. My brothers ex girlfriend was danielle and was a bit dippy so I guess that should be a sign that it's not a good name to pick.

Thanks for the opinions ladies x

I'm a Danielle and I'm not trashy nor chavvy! My lineage is French-Canadian. I've never had any negative comments regarding my name. I think mumsnet can be rather snobby at times :)

A1980 · 25/09/2010 19:38

One of the barristers I instruct (a QC no less) has a daughter named Danielle, so I don't agree that it's chavvy or down market. People of all backgrounds use it.

It's pretty but she will get Danni, which I don't like.

TotorosOcarina · 25/09/2010 19:41

Another Danielle here and am not trashy!

I don't know any others, never disliked my name but always insisted on being 'Danielle' rather than 'Dannii' whih people will try to do!

drivingmisscrazy · 25/09/2010 19:44

I'm a Danielle too - I was born in the 60s and my parents thought it was terribly sophisticated (and upwardly mobile!) but every Danielle I meet now is either a student of mine Blush or a hairdresser...it did go down-market spectacularly in the 80s and 90s. I never liked it (and am generally not keen on girl's names that are versions of boy's names). The first one I met was when I went to university - and I was most put out! Any nn derived is also awful! Daniel is a lovely boys' name

TotorosOcarina · 25/09/2010 19:45

Hmm, yes, I did hate it in school when we were doing the 'history of names' and the teacher reead mine out with 'female form of Daniel'

Made me feel like a right hairy munter Grin

drivingmisscrazy · 25/09/2010 19:49

OTOH I had a lucky escape - from Julian if I'd been a boy, and either Adrienne or Francesca if a girl. Francesca I actually like - but my mum and dad clearly couldn't actually think of any proper names for a girl!

I don't like Danielle and agree that it has slightly 'downmarket' feel to it. Like Chanelle or Chantalle.

I do like Daniela though (pronounced the German way: Dan-y-eeh-la, with a long 'eh').
