Me and DP love Walt . . But is it just too 'old man'?

There's a lot of names I would have considered "old man" 10 or so years ago, and they're all running round the KS1 playground now. You could be leading the way with Walt.

There are connections for me to Walter the Softy, and Wallies generally.

LetThereBeRock · 20/09/2010 11:48

It is,and it's awful.

Ineedsomesleep · 20/09/2010 12:03

Think I like it.

Ineedsomesleep · 20/09/2010 12:09

Pressed post too soon. Was going to add that Walter is a marmite name so if you love it use it and ignore the Shock and Hmm faces when you tell people what your baby is called.

ZacharyQuack · 20/09/2010 12:10

I know a couple of young Walts. Very cool name.

pagwatch · 20/09/2010 12:12

I couldn't do Walt because of Garp.
Poor Walt.

But I quite like Walter

BuntyPenfold · 20/09/2010 12:12

I love Walt and didn't think of Wally myself.

KERALA1 · 20/09/2010 13:09

Oh my god triggering memories of a Walt I used to work with. Beyond sexy..swoon...Never thought of the name in the same way again Grin

SalaDo · 20/09/2010 15:32

Thanks alot for the views :)

Think you're right about the marmite aspect of it. Didnt think of it like that! makes sense!

We considered it when I was pregnant with DD (couldn't use it for obvious reasons!). I loved little Walt from Garp, and although it is a sad story he was the cutest character, and I now think it is a fab name!

Walter Mitty? Walter the Softie?

I'm not convinced this name has lost its negative connotations. FFIW, I was at school with a Walter. He was invariably known by his middle name instead.

missbeehiving · 20/09/2010 20:23

I have can never think of it without referencing "Walter the Farting Dog" - God I love those books; Walter saving the day with his farts - powering cruise ships and deterring burglars. Bloody wonderful writing.

Notyetamummy · 20/09/2010 20:28

I know a little Walter (Walt) and the name really suits him.

I think it's a lovely name.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 20/09/2010 20:29

I would always think 'Wally',
but then I don't know if children use this as an insult anymore??

4andnotout · 20/09/2010 20:33

I like it, my g.granddad was called Walter (Wol as his nn) and i had wanted it if i ever had a ds until dp pointed out that with his surname it would be Walter Lilley Hmm

DaisyDaresYOU · 20/09/2010 22:40

meadowlarks · 20/09/2010 23:23

Firawla · 21/09/2010 08:48

MrsGokWan · 21/09/2010 08:59

I love it, but then I am biased as my son has it as his middle name Grin

ginger2000 · 21/09/2010 10:09

hi - we've been thinking about this name too as its a family name on DHs side (our dd is named after someone on my side) - we just can't decide! Maybe we can lead the way in its revival Salado No help at all to you then! Sorry!

SalaDo · 21/09/2010 10:31

lol ginger2000 I think I'm liking it more and more . . Though I deffo see the marmite thing more and more.

Discussed it with my Mum and she loved it, told my sister and she didnt react (shocked silence I think), told me she needed to digest and call back and I havent heard from her since LOL!!!
