Lovely

thebrightside · 19/09/2010 19:25

Personally prefer Adelaide

Tippychoocks · 19/09/2010 19:26

No, I prefer Adeline! Lovely.

wrinklyraisin · 19/09/2010 19:26

That's my charge's grandmother's name and I love it! She's known as Addie, which is a lovely nickname.

ateles · 19/09/2010 19:52

It is my DD's middle name, after my grandma, I love it and sometimes wish we had used it as her first name...

mathanxiety · 20/09/2010 01:32

Adele or Adela are nicer imo. Adeline reminds me of 'Sweet Adeline' and barbershop quartets.

diddl · 20/09/2010 06:59

Don´t dislike, but prefer Adelina.

mamaloco · 20/09/2010 07:31

Adeline is nice certainely better than adele, adelaide, adela and adelina, but then I have the french prononciation in mind I have no idea how you would prononce it in the UK.

sparkleshine · 20/09/2010 07:50

It's lovely but I immediately thought of adeline character from that tv show Bread. Squeeky voice and a bit dim.

But I'm obviously the only one so that won't matter

cuppatino · 20/09/2010 11:28

Prefer Emmeline or Adelaide, but yes it's nice.

belgo · 20/09/2010 11:29

Prefer Adele. And Adelaide. Or just plain Ada.

HeadingHome · 20/09/2010 11:30

I love Adelaide and it would absoutely fit our surname - but we are moving to Australia and would look like weirdos. :(

Adeline is lovely.

Tippychoocks · 20/09/2010 11:35

mamaloco, I would pronouce it Ad-er-line. Line to rhyme with pine.
Is that right? What's the French way?

belgo · 20/09/2010 11:35

Adelheid is the germanic version of Adelaide.

DastardlyandSmugly · 20/09/2010 11:49

I really like it.

coraltoes · 20/09/2010 14:03

how is it pronounced?
ad-er-lin
or ad-er-line?

i love it! very similar to madeleine but mmore unusual!

ateles · 20/09/2010 19:57

My grandma pronounced it ad-er-lin, and that is how we say it too

mamaloco · 21/09/2010 15:55

It is more like Ad-e-leen (-e- is the french can't find anything close to it in english, may be the -u- in but)

pigindisguise · 21/09/2010 18:04

I'm afraid I saw the heading and thought it read Adrenaline... however I do think it's nice. Prefer Adelaide for that reason

spler · 21/09/2010 21:18

Completely lovely

Notyetamummy · 21/09/2010 23:08

Thanks everyone!
