Not sure what we're getting when (s)he finally arrives but these are our choice of names at the moment. All comments welcome, even honest ones!!

Both nice and unremarkable names.

yellowflowers · 16/09/2010 14:04

both lovely

livviloo · 16/09/2010 14:13

I have a friend with and Owen and an Abigail!

MyMamaToldMe · 16/09/2010 14:14

How funny - I also have a friend with an Owen and an Abigail! Lovely names! :)

Kathleen123 · 17/09/2010 14:38

Both lovely.

Sarahlou8 · 17/09/2010 21:26

Oh wow!! My two top names as well! I couldn't believe I just saw this, thought I was losing my mind and posted without remembering, so interested to hear other views.
I think they're both lovely btw Smile

OTTMummA · 18/09/2010 01:40

I have an Owen and would call any future DD Abigail, or Annie, so i obviously think they are great names :)

AngryPixie · 18/09/2010 01:44

Owen is entirely bland to me
Abigail sweet but many of them

Cadmum · 18/09/2010 03:39

Great choices.

I have used Owen and have had Abigail on a short list.

Not too fussed about Gail as a nickname and Abby doesn't really suit our surname.

sophiesmummie · 18/09/2010 09:07

I don't really like Owen. Abigail is nice, although I'm not so keen on Abi.

CharlieBoo · 18/09/2010 09:12

Owen is ok.

Abigail I don't like at all. Just hate the gail at he end.

ValiumSingleton · 18/09/2010 09:13

I like Ewan more than Owen. I agree that Owen is very bland.

What about Eugene!?? with Gene for short? I am reminded of Eugene (where did that come from?!) because one of the spellings for Eoghan makes me think of Eugene.

I know a few Abigails my own age, So although it's a perfectly good name, nobody is going to say/think 'interesting choice' or 'I don't know one of those'. Gail sounds more interesting to me than abbie. I think Gail is pretty. Maybe it is the Tilsley factor that means there are SO few out there.

LynetteScavo · 18/09/2010 09:20

Both are fine by me.

YaddahYaddahYaddah · 18/09/2010 09:37

Both are nice names, Owen is fairly common where I live (though it tends to be spelt Eoin) and Abigail is getting more freqent. I have to say I do really like it despite it and had considered it as a girls name last time i was pregnant

OTTMummA · 18/09/2010 10:23

The name Owen means wellborn, and originates from Eugene, I just think Owen sounds better, when i think of Eugene i think of a sniviling little brat who no one likes lol, don't know why :S

emmab5 · 18/09/2010 10:27

Both lovely names IMO. I don't think Owen is bland at all but then my goergeous little boy is called Owen :o

lollyheart · 18/09/2010 10:29

I have an Owen, I dont know any others apart from one who is an older man.

Love Abigail aswell Smile

SirBoobAlot · 18/09/2010 11:00

Both nice.

electra · 18/09/2010 11:01

I like both - I have an Abigail so biased!

KittyBigglesworth · 19/09/2010 07:09

Feel neutral about Owen, certainly don't have any strong feelings of dislike about it. Eugene has more of a spark to it.

I like Abigail, not keen on Abi and I agree with ValiumSingleton with regard to prefering Gail or even Gaelle/Gale as a nn or name in its own right if you would like a similar name that isn't as popular. I read a review today that said there's a barrister called Gail as the wife of an Oxford professor in the new Le Carre book. Perhaps because the only academically bright woman to make an impact upon the public consciousness last year was Trimble or maybe he just liked the name.

Popularity isn't always a bad thing, though. Names like Charlotte, Sarah, Katherine and Elizabeth are popular across all levels of income/education but they don't seem to have lost their lustre too badly, perhaps because names that have been used for hundreds of years and are royal or biblical fare rather better than those from the Ruby, Scarlett and Mae category.

gummymum · 19/09/2010 13:14

Love Abigail as I am one. Very rarely come across anyone else with the name although I know there are some out there. Gives the choice of Abigail for a nice grown-up name, Abi to your friends (which I love being called) and Abs to nearest and dearest - loads of variety!! I also like Owen, only know a few - what does it get shortened to though?

OTTMummA · 19/09/2010 21:56

I can't stand nicknames, sorry!
So Owen was the perfect name for DS, he just suits his name, We had another name in reserve when he was born, but even the Consultant said, ' oh no definately and Owen ' :)
