Nickname for Isaac?

Hi,
Issac is one of our current favourites for a boy but am interested in what it would end up being shortened to? Isa? Zac?
Can anyone who has an Isaac shed any light on this? :-)

Also, am looking for a one syllable second name to go with it as it will have a long double-barreled surname....any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!

I know one who is Zac and one who is Ike.

SkylineDrifter · 14/09/2010 12:09

Ike's the only one I know of. I think Zac tends to be short for Zachary.

How about Isaac James?

SkylineDrifter · 14/09/2010 12:10

Oh and my Mum was Isabella, shortened to Isa when she was very young - so maybe don't use that, it's a bit feminine.

BikeRunSki · 14/09/2010 12:19

I know one who is Issie and one who is Zac.

PandaG · 14/09/2010 12:21

I know one shortened to Ise or Isey (pron eyes or eyes-y)

Bagpusstree · 14/09/2010 12:44

I have an Isaac. To be honest he isn't shortened to anything yet - apart from Zacaroo by me! I think he'll be more likely to be called Zac by friends when he gets to school age....But who knows?

xx

Thissideofchannel · 14/09/2010 13:36

Why would you shorten Isaac - it is so short and rolls off the tongue easily.

SandStorm · 14/09/2010 13:58

I know an Isaac and it's never been shortened.

Merrylegs · 14/09/2010 14:05

I have an Isaac. When he was little the name seemed too 'adult' for him somehow, so my plan was to call him Zac. But it never really caught on - actually I think the names are quite different. So he has always been just Isaac and it suits him perfectly!

Merrylegs · 14/09/2010 14:07

(As Prefab Sprout sang in their song 'Green Isaac' -

'Isaac's a soft name/It sounds like a pocketful of rain...')

Fimbo · 14/09/2010 14:13

I know one, his shortened version is Is - said eyes.

Exactly the same as Merrylegs! We occasionally call him Zac, and it was one of the reasons we chose the name, but haven't got round to using it much yet. No one's ever called him 'Ike' tho.

And he's an Isaac David which obviously I think is best :) but I think Isaac James works well, or Isaac Joel, or Isaac Luke?

And beware, it may come back to bite you in the butt - ours is the giggliest child I know (he's now eight) and whenever I tell him off for being too giddy he says, "But it's not my fault - Isaac means 'laughter'!"

EleFunTess · 14/09/2010 14:52

Usually Zac or Ike, isn't it?

TaurielTest · 14/09/2010 14:53

I know two and they're both Ike.

choccyp1g · 14/09/2010 14:54

Surprised no-one's mentioned Ike. It looks strange written down, but sounds fine with a longer surname. (eestro: I agree Isaac James works well, was my Dad's name. All his Aunts used to call him by the full name, even into his 50's)

ozmetric · 14/09/2010 15:10

I prefer it without a shortened version, but Zac is OK.

clpsmum · 14/09/2010 16:29

i have an Isaac and he is also known as Zac not too many of his pals shorten it to be honest though.

For second name how about
Flynn
Tom
Jack
Joe
Hal
Lee
Kai
Jay

ShowOfHands · 14/09/2010 16:32

My friend has an Isaac. He is known as Isey (eye zee).

Raahh · 14/09/2010 16:43

Isaac was our name for a boy (only we are having a girl, due in 2 weeks). We were going to use Ike as a nn, which was what made me love the name Isaac in the first place!

HarderToKidnap · 14/09/2010 17:18

I know an Isaac shorted to Izzy and one who has the nickname Yitz. (Yitzak is the Hebrew pronounciation)

eestro · 14/09/2010 19:47

Oooo, Yitz! That's very cool! :)

JessTT · 15/09/2010 11:54

Wow, thanks for all your responses! :-) I agree that it doesn't need to be shortened necessarily - I love the name as it is but interesting to hear the options - I actually like Ike and Zac.

And thanks for the second name suggestions - I really like Isaac James (or I was also thinking Isaac John maybe - my lovely step-dad is John, he would be so chuffed!) - I LOVE Flynn but we have named our puppy Flynn (although now wish I'd left it for an option for our baby!) :-)

eestro - lets hope this one IS giggly - I love the fact that the name means 'laughter'! Grin

Thanks again - was feeling really stuck with boys names (we have so many girls names we love) until we both discovered we love Isaac - YAY!
