Leo or Theo??

I'm due to have my baby in 8 weeks - VERY excited!

DH and I have decided on Emmeline Claire for a girl (nn Millie), but are dithering between Leo or Theo for a boy.

Leo would just be Leo on birth cert (we don't like the longer versions and Leo is a name in its own right)..

..and Theo would be Theodore on birth cert.

Middle name would be Michael.

Which would you choose & why?

LEO!!! Every time Smile Love your girls name too (think it should be Clare though Wink)

MollysChambers · 13/09/2010 09:17

Like both but don't like Theodore. So based on that would opt for Leo.

NormanNorris · 13/09/2010 09:40

Leo. Theo sounds so twee and will date more in my opinion.

cathn · 13/09/2010 10:28

Love both Leo and Theo - fab names.

If had to choose one I would go for Theo since you said you would put Theodore on the birth cert and I think it can be nice to have a longer version of your name sometimes!

ValiumSingleton · 13/09/2010 11:58

Leo

I think Leo is more classic. Theo is an 'o' name and it will date a bit more. I like both though.

jellybeans · 13/09/2010 12:06

Leo. Like Theo but not Theodore.

SpiderWilliam · 13/09/2010 12:07

Leo.

Just sounds so much more robust.

ozmetric · 13/09/2010 12:20

Theodore :)

clpsmum · 13/09/2010 12:23

Theo, they are both nice but Theo and Theodore are both much nicer than Leo and also he will then have the choice of Theo or Theodore (or Ted, Teddy etc other nn for theodore which are just as nice)

megonthemoon · 13/09/2010 13:11

I have a Leo so of course I'll say that! But I do like the sound of both.

I believe they are of similar popularity (40-50ish on lists) - popular but not so likely to have another in their class as say Jack or Charlie.

I was put off Theo by the meaning - God's gift - because we don't believe in God. But if you do then it is probably a great choice.

chaya5738 · 13/09/2010 13:19

Both are great but I agree with clpsmum - more versitility (sp?) with Theodore.

Rach109 · 15/09/2010 21:11

Theo

clarabellarocks · 15/09/2010 22:57

Both lovely names but I think Theo maybe more popular (certainly where I live) there are two in one of my music groups.

simpson · 15/09/2010 22:58

Leo definately think its lovely Smile

qwerty123 · 15/09/2010 23:30

Theo

diddl · 16/09/2010 07:47

Leo.

eatyourveg · 16/09/2010 08:03

Theo, Leo is everywhere these days. Theodore Michael sounds great.

Bagpusstree · 16/09/2010 08:10

Theo for me.
Leo reminds me always of Leo Sayer - that 1970's?80's? singer bloke with the massive hair......

LaTristesse · 16/09/2010 08:41

Leo. Round our way Theo would get pronounced with an F, and that would drive me mad!

4madboys · 16/09/2010 08:58

well i have a Theodore, known as Theo, so i would vote for that every time, its a lovely name and he has always been the only one at school etc, he is now 11 and still the only one that we know, tho i do think it is becoming more popular :)

CaptainNancy · 16/09/2010 09:27

I love the name Theo (but as someone above said, meaning is a no no for us). Leo just makes me think of the gurning Blairs, sorry.

persephoneplum · 16/09/2010 12:51

I still swoon over Theodore and mine is three! God I love that name.

LetThereBeRock · 16/09/2010 13:55

Theo is much nicer.

Starsky08 · 14/12/2010 16:27

Theo. I'm biased though as our 2 year old is called Theo. We took the meaning of 'divinely loved' rather than 'god's gift'

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 14/12/2010 16:57

I like, and have suggested, both to DH. I know 2 Theos - but no Leos.
