Hi,

I am still dithereing over girls names-

I love the name Amaya- but my surname is a Mac

So what do you think of the name and for a middle name we origianally thought-

Rose- but initials would be ARM. So now I thought Kate

So if anyone could think of middle names that go would be a great help and would Amaya go with a MAC surname?

Amaya is lovely, but I have to say I'm not sure it would go with a Mac name. Isn't Amaya Spanish?
Your surname is presumably Scottish?

Kate is nice as a middle name, what about Claire?

sorrento56 · 07/09/2010 18:08

Amaya sounds like a made up name.

MentalFloss · 07/09/2010 18:09

I quite like it actually - is it pronounced ah-miy-a?

Hmm, middle names I quite like:
Amaya Jean
Amaya Caroline
Amaya Belle
Amaya Anne
Amaya Kay
Amaya Lily
Amaya Grace
Amaya Claire
Amaya Elise
Amaya Elle
Amaya Jade
Amaya Hope
Amaya Mae
Amaya Ruby
Amaya Eve
Amaya Joy

Not sure about amaya- what about Amelia? Or Maya?

happymonkey · 07/09/2010 20:19

It is Japanese or Spanish- Japanes for night rain Spanish meaning high place

I found it on mumsnet name finder thing. Although I am not Scottish OH is half and so we have Scottish surname. Amaya Ruby is nice- but I do need to think.

I know a couple of little Amelia's around here- so need to think- although I quite like it.

One of the girls from mÅ· NCT group called her DD Amaya, and another one called her DD Amaeya. They're both Indian.

We nearly called our daughter Amaya - it means night rain in Japanese. I got put off it at the last moment though (which I'll share with you if you want) and we chose something else ...Not sure about pronounciation though ... A-may-a OR A-my-a?? We now have another daughter called Maya which we pronounce May-a (English pronounciation from the month of May) rather than My-a! Suits her and we love it! BTW what is wrong with Amaya and Mac ... sound absolutely fine! I heard of a boy recently called Bertie Titterton ... now that's a tricky combination!!

Firawla · 07/09/2010 22:48

Amaya is really nice

SirBoobAlot · 07/09/2010 22:56

Looks made up to me. What about Anya?

ladyharriet · 07/09/2010 23:53

Is it pronounced like "Am I a..."... if so, with the middle name it sounds like "Am I a rose?" It does sound pretty apart from that though.

I know what people mean about it looking a bit made-up but apparently it's a Basque name. Think the Japanese meaning is a bit dubious, but it is a romantic image, night rain!

ladyharriet · 07/09/2010 23:54

Oh sorry didn't read it properly and missed that you had ditched Rose.

happymonkey · 08/09/2010 08:34

I have pretty much decided it sounds ridiculous with our surname so back t the drawing board. Only two weeks to go.

We have a boys name so it is all set there.

Fivecrazymonkey, 'A-may-a' like 'May-a' is so much prettier than A-my-a. Less harsh sounding.

It is also an Arabic name & means night rain as well. How about Nouriya? From the Arabic word Noor meaning light, illumination.

Carolra · 21/02/2013 05:52

I know an Amaya, she's gorgeous! She has middle names from her mum's family (Japanese) and then a very boring British surname. Whatever you call them, in the long run, just becomes "normal" for you and people that know you, so I wouldn't worry at all, maybe add another middle name to avoid the acronym issue but I think Amaya Rose is beautiful. P.s I have my husbands ridiculous surname too, it's almost as short as yours but ten times more boring!!! Naming our dd was a challenge!

Goldensunnydays81 · 21/02/2013 05:53

If ds had been a girl he would have been Amaya or Omaya which is the Sri Lankan version! And rose would probably have been the middle name! I still like it but if I were to have a dd now I'm not sure use it!!

MidnightMasquerader · 21/02/2013 08:46

Bump-o-rama...

Leeds2 · 21/02/2013 10:52

I know an Anaya, rather than Amaya!
