Is three names too much?

Okay I'll keep this short! Which do you prefer??

Luca Joseph
Luca Henry
Luca Joseph Henry ...

We really can't decide as we both have a favourite. Then I thought - why not both?? Our surname is single syllable.

Using both middle names may be the best option but is it too much???

My DS has 3 names - his first name because we loved it, the second after DH's dad, who died some time ago, and the third name after my dad. I think your names go well together and I like Luca Joseph Henry very much.

ButterpieBride · 06/09/2010 22:22

DH insisted on both of ours having three names, apparently it looks best on a cricket scoreboard...

Ours have really grand names btw:

Marianne Catherine Isabella
Emmeline Christabel Petra

I recite their names to them to calm them down, and used them as kind of mantras during their pregnancies and births.

QuickLookBusy · 06/09/2010 22:28

My DD1 has 3 names.

First because we liked it 2nd and 3rd after grandmothers.

She feels very special having 3 names.

I think Luca Joseph Henry sounds lovely Smile

A1980 · 06/09/2010 22:29

It depends on the length.

I have only two names but in terms of syllables, my two names are longer than Luca Joseph Henry.

Exogenesis · 06/09/2010 22:30

DD has 3 names. One fore name and 2 middle names.

Her second middle name is actually her fathers surname (long story)

They go well together and so far no one has said its too long. I only get a xxxxxx really for her second middle name.

hogshead · 06/09/2010 22:35

my DS has 3 names - mainly because on the way to register his birth (literally in the car driving to our appointment) DH suddenly announced that he would like DS to have his name as a middle name too Confused

As DH rarely asks for anything I agreed.

Although my sister says that DS will spend the rest of his life cursing me when he is filling in forms :)

Yep- he will hardly ever HAVE to include all his names and he can always drop one or two when he is an adult if he wants.

MummyDoIt · 06/09/2010 22:41

I have three names and a long surname so I have the grand total of 16 syllables. I love it! There's never enough room on forms for all of it, though.

fivecrazymonkeys · 07/09/2010 12:42

Thanks for all your replies! Phew, I think we have a name!!

DS has three names; First name is one we liked, second is his dads name, third is my granddads name. And then his surname is double barrelled. Works for us!

witlesssarah · 07/09/2010 13:02

DS has four names We agreed his first name easily while pregnant, then my dad's name, DH's dad's name and then DS suddenly wanted them name of someone he admires, our surname is one syllable. Why not?

I was only given one name, and am still jealous of my sister who has three! Go with the three

mrstimlovejoy · 07/09/2010 13:08

my dd has 3 names
1st name a version of my nans name
2nd name my other nans name
3rd name after one of dh's heroes

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/09/2010 13:08

When I was younger I wanted an extra/third name so decided that I'd just give myself one - for ages I told people I was called Knitter Jane Mary Twitter whereas actually I was only entitled to the Jane!! Go for 3...

thefirstmrsDeVere · 07/09/2010 13:09

Try these on for size then

Jaidon Coltrane Ashton Levi Lee
Asher Marley Lennon William
Rudy Asa Billy Cassius Hendrix

I was just practising with the first two DCs and they only got 2 & 3 names Grin

jjones · 07/09/2010 13:11

My son has 3 name,

Lucas William Patrick

we think it sound quite good.

Antidote · 07/09/2010 13:11

The ONLY reason I can think of not to give him all three of your lovely names is in case you have another one of the same sex and feel you might have 'used up' all the name you like on the first one.

Obviously feel free to ignore if this doesn't apply for some reason.

hobbgoblin · 07/09/2010 13:18

One of my dC has 4 names and a hyphenated/double barrelled surname. Three names is fine, and yours go beautifully together.

SirBoobAlot · 07/09/2010 15:50

Look, it could be worse. Could be Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa Geldof...

fiona25 · 07/09/2010 16:08

we went for a long first name, fave middle name and his surname is only one sylable (compared to my 3 one!), so we went for Zachery Darcy (zachery, although spelt differently....and darcy because of my fave author, jane austen!)

Hai1988 · 07/09/2010 17:13

DS has 3 names, first name because we liked it second name is FIL's name and third is my grandad who died.

JuJusDad · 07/09/2010 20:48

My DD has 9 letter 4 syllable first name, two single syllable middle names (her Chinese name) and a double-barrelled surname.

What the hell, there's only one of my DD, and I can guarantee no-one else will ever have the same name.

Go for it, let him have all the names. They're short enough, he can choose later if he wants to ditch any of them or be called by a particular one.

fivecrazymonkeys · 07/09/2010 22:03

So many replies - thank you!! I had to smile at antidote's answer though as this baby is our number 5 and definitely last :-( !!! So no worries about 'using up' our names! Actually, I wanted to call our second son Henry but at the time my husband didn't like it. Seems all that is now forgotten and it has become his fave so I can use it anyway...
