Straight away I thought of Punch and Judy...although that might be because I've read the Punch and Judy thread on chat...

princessProudmel · 04/09/2010 22:12

Punch?

tethersend · 04/09/2010 22:15

Richard.

EffieB · 04/09/2010 22:16

other than the punch and richard thing though, is it a nice name? Need something short and classicy, thought this might have a nice 40's, 50's feel to it?

Weirdly, this song.

I like the name, anyway.

ladyharriet · 04/09/2010 22:18

Oh and there's Judy Garland. Yeah it does have a nice 40s-50s feel.

tethersend · 04/09/2010 22:20

Oh, and is lovely.

EffieB · 04/09/2010 22:25

also judy collins the singer- it does seem to have some lovely musical connotations. I would quite like to be the judy in the belle and sebastian song!

Richard and Judy.

Sorry.

MummyLovesSadie · 04/09/2010 22:48

A total yawn of a name. Sorry.

xxEvadneCakexx · 04/09/2010 22:56

I picture it as a name of some of my friends mums back in the 80's. It conjures up images of Chilli concarne, eternal beau crockery and Silvekrin hairspray with an acid perm and piss poor home capped highlights.

It's a no from me I'm afraid.

BuntyPenfold · 04/09/2010 23:35

How about Jill for a nice 40s or 50s name?

malovitt · 04/09/2010 23:38

Judge

ivykaty44 · 04/09/2010 23:45

I like Judy, think it is a good name

Jill or Jillina is good aswell and certianly popular well after the 40' and 50's and into the 70's

A1980 · 04/09/2010 23:45

I think it's cute

EffieB · 04/09/2010 23:49

MummylovesSadie, what are the qualities it has that makes it seem a yawn of a name?

Know too many Gill's and Jillian's my age to go for that I think, though I do like it as a name

Punch, Richard, and the cow I knew at school with the name... All very negative, so I really don't like it. Also think its just a bit odd. Can't put my finger on why, but it doesn't sound quite right.

MummyLovesSadie · 05/09/2010 07:18

It just says absolutely nothing to me. It doesn't sound pretty, strong or unusual. It's an instantly forgettable boring nothingy name.

seeker · 05/09/2010 10:07

Judith? Shoretened to Judy if you find it suites her. I think Judith is lovely.

IHeartKingThistle · 05/09/2010 10:11

I really want to like it, it's sweet really. I knew several people with dogs called Judy when I was a kid though, I think it's a sheepdog kind of name iyswim. That shouldn't put you off though, there are lots of names that are used for both!

Marquez · 05/09/2010 10:15

Blume?

Surely it's Judith anyway? Which is horrid, IMO. Although quite like Judy and potential for a little girl nicknamed Jude.

ivykaty44 · 05/09/2010 11:13

Why is it Judith
Katy and not katherine
Max and not Maxamillion

People use the name which they want not an elongated name that they wouldn't like or want

Quenbioz · 05/09/2010 13:10

Not sure about Judith. How about

Other names starting with J

Julia
Jennifer
Juliet
Josephine/Josie
Jane

Other -di- names

Sadie
Edith/Edie
Lydia
Nadia
Meredith

Quenbioz · 05/09/2010 18:02

Or Jodie?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 06/09/2010 16:24

I know a lovely, lovely Judy (a grown up) and, so I think it's a lovely name and one I did put on my list (in pencil, with a question mark, but don't need now as we're having a boy), but I think it's good as everyone knows it, knows how to spell it and it's underused.
