Just testing a few namesas im trying for another at the minute and i quite liked Mazie if i had a little girl.

Also i cant think of a middle name to go with Mazie.

Any ideas?

I have never seen the maisy mouse cartoons.. ill avoid it then lol

I disagree that its to unprofessional. Whats a professional name?

I know a 15 year old girl named Maisie, but also spelled Mazie and she is a lovely girl really cool teenager and she really suits her name.

Never an adult maisie but im sure there must be some out there and there are probably at least a handfull of what would be classed as a professional.

If she wanted to she could use mae for short.

I know a Maizie, it really suits her but she is 2!

NoTeaForMe · 31/08/2010 22:18

Sorry that was my comment about not being a professional name! What I mean is that I can't decide if it's too cute for a grown up? I don't know I love the name like I said, as does my husband, but I'm not sure I can imagine a 30/40 year old Maisie?! I don't know?

daisystone · 01/09/2010 13:49

it is spelt Maisie - don't change the spelling, that is so awful.

It is fine for a little girl but I can't imagine a grown woman wanting to be called Maisie - it sounds stupid

NoTeaForMe · 01/09/2010 13:53

Think 'stupid' is a bit harsh!

daisystone · 01/09/2010 13:55

Well it does! A grown woman called Maisie with a Z. I pity her already!

NoTeaForMe · 01/09/2010 13:57

I agree the spelling is bad, but thenightwalker has already said she was guessing on the spelling and prefers it spelt Maisie.

daisystone · 01/09/2010 14:00

I suppose that makes it marginally better....

I do think you have to bear in mind your child's feeling when naming them and not just name them because you think it is cute.

Reminds me of Keith Richards naming his daughter Dandelion only for her to change her name to Angela as she couldn't bear the name her parents gave her.

think of the child!

NoTeaForMe · 01/09/2010 14:04

Of course you do, and that is why I am umming and aahing about Maisie. I love the name but am slightly concerned about it suiting a 30/40 year old. Husband is adament that it will be fine, especially as there will be a few more Maisies around then.

Really don't think you can compare Maisie to Dandelion though, not in the same league at all!!

daisystone · 01/09/2010 14:11

Would you want to be 45 and called Maisie?
I wouldn't even want to be 25 and called Maisie.

It is a great name for a little dog though.

NoTeaForMe · 01/09/2010 14:18

I don't know.....

Anyone else have an opinion? - sorry I seem to have slightly hijacked the thread!

Clary · 02/09/2010 00:15

I think people need to fast forward a few years (like, 20) and think about it.

There will be a lot of young women called Daisy, Maisie, Grace, Polly, Molly, Tilly, Maddie, Emmie, Ella, Bella, Ellie, Lily...

There will, because they are all at school now. SOme of them will be housewives, some will be fashion models, some will be shop assitants, some will be IT technicians and some will be on the way to being High Court judges.

Just because people don't know anyone called Maisie who is a lawyer doesn't mean they won't in future years.

diddl · 02/09/2010 07:57

I´ve always thought of it as an old lady name tbh.

Rockbird · 02/09/2010 12:28

It's right up there with Poppy in silliness, these are names you give hamsters.

SirBoobAlot · 02/09/2010 12:55

If you're going to use it, at least spell it properly.

I know a Maisie Rose.

noeyedear · 02/09/2010 13:31

My DH's grandmother was Maisie (clearly a grownup one!) My MIL suggested it for DC2 so its a posibility for us, but the only thing thats putting me off is the original maisie sounded like a bit of a mad old woman!

IBlameThePenguins · 05/09/2010 22:22

I know two maisie's. One is a very beautiful very intelligent professional woman, and the other is my DD, who is fiesty, fiercly independent, and not remotely simpering!!! I love it...but I suppose I am biassed!

We call her Mai for short, or sometimes by her middle name, which is Rose.

I work in Paediatrics, and one of the reasons I chose it was that I had never worked with a child called Maisie, so it had no connotations for me.

People are usually really positive about the name...although my GP has given her poodle that name Confused

xx

IBlameThePenguins · 05/09/2010 22:25

SirBoobAlot...I winder f it's MY Maisie Rose that you know...Wink

sexybrunettemotherof5 · 05/09/2010 23:36

I dunno, i know a girl called Dayzee and I used to think it a silly spelling, but it actually really suits her! Spell it how you like! I quite like the name.

NoTeaForMe · 06/09/2010 23:21

Hmm, quite like the idea of having Mai for short. Love the name Maisie!!!

fivecrazymonkeys · 09/09/2010 22:43

Makes me think of maize/corn!! Maisy makes me think of a mouse! some girls names IMO are great for a little girl up to about 5 and then they seem a bit 'silly'. Such as: Maisy, Tilly, Molly (big fat lady baking buns), Lulu, Mimi etc. Great as nick names though.

careylouwho · 10/09/2010 11:14

I agree with Clary - as there are so many "cutesy" names that are popular right now, by the time this baby is an adult Maisie will be a perfectly normal and respectable name for an adult woman. And she can use Mai for short if she decides that Maisie doesn't suit her.

Go for it, if it's what you love! But agree on going for the more common spelling.

As for a middle name - I like Grace, so Maisie Grace.

fivecrazymonkeys · 12/09/2010 21:23

Don't want to upset the OP but don't you think Maisie Grace sounds a bit like 'amazing grace ...'???

MrsRhettButler · 12/09/2010 21:29

my niece is called maisie and i don't like it, i also think it doesn't suit a 30 something.. it is either a two yr olds name or an old ladies name

Isla77 · 14/09/2010 12:34

I always thought of Maisie as an old lady name as lots of grannies had that name where I grew up. But it is popular now and trendy for girls so I do not think she would be teased.
