Aver? Unisex names?

My boyfriend suggested the name Aver for our unborn baby girl. Wondered what you all think? We have a son, aged 4, with a pretty normal name though I think they go okay together. Maybe it's my hormones talking but I think I do like Aver alot.

Also wondered what your views are on unisex names? The obvious one would be Ashley (think Ashley from Corrie, Ashley Cole, etc..) but a friend of mine recently called her little girl Samuel. Hmm?

Agree totally with LitR.
Aver is just the beginning of a word- average is the first one that comes to mind... not what you want for any precious child. Stick with Ava please.

Agree that Ava is a nicer spelling.

Ava was our first choice but we ran into too many problems with it (DH hated it!) and so he sugested Aver, pronounced Ay-ver. With the accent on the A.

Do you live in a part of the country where people pronounce their "r"s? Otherwise I can't see that it's any different from Ava except noone will ever spell it correctly.

I'm Scottish so it sounds a bit too close to "haver" for my liking (which means talk a load of nonsense) so that would rule it out for me.
