Is David popular? It doesn't seem to be at the moment.

I really like this name. So, amazingly, does DH, although I have yet to cross-examine him on how much he likes it. (He keeps on going along with suggestions for a few days, and just when I'm getting used to it, he admits he doesn't like it that much. Hmm)

There are any amount of Davids in our generation (I'm 37). DH and I know about 8 between us as friends. I've always liked the name a lot and think it's timeless and classic. I'm trying to avoid names that are really popular at the moment, while not ending up with anything outlandish. Quick inaccurate poll: does anyone know of any baby Davids born recently? Smile

What would you shorten it to if you wanted a diminutive for a baby? Davey? (aka Royle Family, Baby Davey. Hmm) I can't imagine having a baby Dave, somehow. Daves are all 40+! Grin

I have a 2.5 year old David. He's quite often Davy (named after the one of the twins from Anne of Avonlea). I, too, had never met one under the age of 25, and haven't yet. I love his name.

ValiumSingleton · 29/08/2010 11:10

No it's not popular, because most woman have had an ex or a boss called David.

I'm not ready for it yet. I like Peter and Robbie and Richie though, so, maybe it's illogical, but David is so, so dull, and funny on a baby!

mopsyflopsy · 29/08/2010 11:34

I don't know any little Davids either, but agree that it is a great, classic name. He probably won't have to share his name with too many other classmates! Go for it!

vjoy · 29/08/2010 11:56

My younger brother is called David. He's 20 now and prefers to be called Dave. I remember suggesting the name when my mother was pregnant with him (I was 10). I was totally into David Hasselhoff at the time!! Any my parents went for it! lol.

lifeas3plus1 · 29/08/2010 13:47

My 9yr old dss is David.

There isn't another one in his school!

In 9yrs he has never been called Dave! Always David!

I like it.

Remotew · 29/08/2010 13:49

I like it. Quite unique nowadays for a baby. I know a 22yr old with this name, quite a change from Reece, Josh and the like that are of that age group.

pooter · 29/08/2010 13:54

I have a 3.5yr old David. We intended to call him Davey as a baby nickname, but it just didnt stick, so he has always been David. Well, he spent the first few months being called Bobbin...Hmm

I know of only one other David under 25, and he is 2.5yrs. I like it! We have a family tradition of Davids, so it feels right for us, and it was a bit of a nod of appreciation to my dad (also a David).

Lancelottie · 29/08/2010 14:10

My father, brother and nephew are all David. We used it as a second name.

I only know of two in the kids' schools, but it certainly never raises an eyebrow in the way that Roger or Mike might.

collision · 29/08/2010 14:13

My bro is 38 and called David.

Sort of 'meh' to me but OK.

My uncle is David too but dont think I know anyone under the age of 30 called Dave or David.

Use it - maybe it is time for a revival!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/08/2010 14:18

I know two lovely Davids! DS had one in his clSs aged 11 and we know one aged 4.

We are SW London.

tassisssss · 29/08/2010 14:22

I can't think of any little Davids, I love it!

LouMacca · 29/08/2010 15:06

I love David. It's my 40 year old brothers name and I know of one other David aged 7.

horatia · 29/08/2010 18:56

I like it.

AnathemaDevice · 29/08/2010 20:52

I was going to use it if I ever have a DS2 (it was my grandad's middle name). But we already have a Nicholas and I don't really want a Nick and Dave, people might think I'm a Tory.

Go for it, it's a good ageless, classless name.

LilyBolero · 29/08/2010 20:57

DS3's middle name is David, lovely name, means 'blessed'.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 29/08/2010 21:27

Good responses, thanks! Smile

Valium, good point about most women having an ex or a boss called David. I have a sort-of ex called David! But it doesn't bother DH and I'm trying to work out if it's wierd, or otherwise a bit off, to call a baby a name that an ex has. (DH will never have to go through this quandry, since we're stopping at 2 and they're both boys!)

Really interesting that there are so few small Davids out there. I still love the name, despite its association with old codgers of my age and upward! And LittleCheesy, I like the spelling of Davy rather than Davey.

good good. It's top of the list at the moment! Grin

Love it.

And he will be the only one in his school!

A1980 · 29/08/2010 22:39

David is one of my favourite names for a boy. It's top of my list.

It's dropped out of popularity too so all the better.

bigstripeytiger · 29/08/2010 22:43

I know two Davids who are toddlers.
