Don't want popular names, what you think of these?

So DP and I are dead set against naming our child one of the 10 or 20 most popular names and thought we had come up with nice ones that not everyone would have.

Do you think these are very popular just now? We're in Edinburgh, that probably has a bearing on it.

BOY:
Noah
Benjamin
Sebastian

GIRL:
Maggie (to be Margaret officially)

We're sort of stuck on Maggie as a name for a girl but names for boys are not coming easily.

Thanks!

i think sebastian is the least popular of all your boys names, but still seem to meet quite a few of them at the moment.

caleb is really popular in canada right now ( i'm canadian as well, and was constantly checking the top 100 for over there as well as in the uk when i was pregnant!) i don't know of many maggies, and think that is a cute name.

Got to agree about Mrs T - put me off Maggie for ever!

Plus Margaret sounds like my mum. Not wanting to be rude about my mum of course... just think it's a bit odd when people name their children after living family - or even themselves... future identity crisis in the making?

I'm trying very hard not to turn into my mother ... Grin

All great advice ladies, thanks! Avocadoes, I think I will keep the DP from brideshead revisited just in case he vetoes yet another nameHmm.
prizeelliott I love the name Hazel and all the old-fashioned names like Ivy and Iris but DP wasn't keen.

Gack, I didn't even think of looking at popular names in Canada! I think we're pretty settled here so hopefully it won't be an issue...

Think your boys names are all quite popular - we are struggling with the same dilemma and with 5 weeks to go haven't got a clue!
I have a dd called Maggie (not Margaret though) and obviously love it!!! It was my grandmothers name and I only know of one other maggie who is a newborn.

mathanxiety · 30/08/2010 00:50

I love Maggie, and know about half a dozen from babies to 20 yos.

I would go for Dominic, Leo, Conrad or Thaddeus instead of your boys' names, which are all popular among a certain set, as ValiumSingleton points out. Or Benedict, as an alternative to Benjamin.

bearcrumble · 30/08/2010 07:49

Oh Benedict is nice. I like that.

Maggie makes me think of the baby from the Simpsons more than Margaret Thatcher.
