'Bronte', until I heard it yelled in a broad Northern accent recently.

Gone right off it now!

But the Brontes were Northern! Sounds fitting to my & a lovely name.

i really liked it until i mentioned it one day and my FIL's first reaction was Bronte-Sauraus! idiot put me right off!

PaulineCampbellJones · 26/08/2010 15:14

As opposed to a broad Southern accent which would make it nice?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/08/2010 16:09

Oooh you don't want to hear long vowel sounds in a broad southern accent (think Wayne etc) (And I'm from the south-ish, before you ask).

BuntyPenfold · 26/08/2010 16:10

I think the Brontes had strong Irish accents, and apparently their real name was Brunty.

I know one girl of 14 or so named Bronte and cringe a bit when her friends say 'Bront.'

mathanxiety · 26/08/2010 16:21

You should hear it in a nasal Chicago twang...

BuntyPenfold · 26/08/2010 16:28

Trying to imagine....like a gangster Bronte? (stereotyping- sorry)

morganlebuffay · 26/08/2010 16:29

Worse than that, Bunty, it was Prunty!

BuntyPenfold · 26/08/2010 16:31

Grin morganlebuffay I like your name btw

mathanxiety · 26/08/2010 16:38

The 'on' part is 'aaahhhhhhhhnnn' and not a bit nice Smile

sedgiebaby · 26/08/2010 16:56

I suggested Bronte to by DH quite early on and he said: Are you trying to just think of the weirdest names you can?

pamelat · 26/08/2010 17:01

There are quite a few Byrons where I live as he had a connection to Seaham Hall.
