dh's suggestions are Marvin and Graham!
not to sure they sound good with Eli and Amos though, i was looking for something a bit more Hebrew!
Anyway - what do you think of Graham and Marvin?

I like Marvin.

Graham is fine, but I know too many 30-40 year olds that in my mind it is a middle aged name.

MummyLovesSadie · 26/08/2010 13:09

Really really don't like either I'm afraid!

hatsybatsy · 26/08/2010 13:18

Marvin could be ok - shortened to Marv? (like in Charlie and lola!)

But agree neither really go with your other names - think you probably do need to stick to the hebrew theme now you've started?

tummytickler · 26/08/2010 13:30

I agree really, I don't know what dh is thinking.

Awful. Truly awful

mathanxiety · 26/08/2010 16:40

Terrible. Eli and Amos are so nice. Marvin and Graham are bald, paunchy, middle aged accountants.

usualsuspect · 26/08/2010 16:41

Awful ,especially Marvin

deemented · 26/08/2010 16:42

I used to love the name Marvin, but there used to be a jeans ad years ago with the tag line 'Poor fat Marvin can't wear Levi's' and i've disliked it since then...

tummytickler · 26/08/2010 16:55

I thought as much.
We have to have a Hebrew name, but we do not agree at all (dh wanting Hershel , I want something a bit more subtle like Shem).
So dh suggested these, my initial reaction was ShockHmm, but thought maybe i was missing how fabulous they are.
Obviously not Grin

Math Shock, yes I know those 2 accountants as well!
Also, would suit two large brotherly black cats.

KittyBigglesworth · 26/08/2010 17:04

I can't comprehend your dh's desire for Marvin, it reminds me of Hank Marvin.

Graham is the better of the two names although I'm not mad about it. It could move into the trend that is appearing for Enid Blyton type names, though, slightly nerdy and ernest.

Brings to mind, Graham Greene, the the writer, Graham & Green, the interiors shop, Kenneth Grahame, writer of The Wind in the Willows and Graham Coxon of Blur. I always confuse Malcolm and Graham, is your dh Scottish? There's also the alternative spelling of Graeme.

It's true that it could be sterotypically 'accountant', although on the upside, you would never expect a 'Graham' to have an ASBO or a rotweiller. Perhaps they warm up when they remove their specs?

FranSanDisco · 26/08/2010 17:06

Hank Marvin = starvin'.

LynetteScavo · 26/08/2010 17:20

I love Marvin, and I hate Graham.

Malcolm?

CupcakesHay · 26/08/2010 17:23

My dad's a graham and everyone calls him Gray which is not a very nice nickname IMO.

Marvin's okay...

horatia · 26/08/2010 20:31

Martin is nicer than Marvin, IMO. It got laughed at on another thread the other day, but it's a traditional name and a saint's name, and I think it's due a revival.

Not keen on Graham, but would Gregory appeal to you as an alternative?

tummytickler · 26/08/2010 20:37

Tbh Marvin and Graham don't appeal at all! I am hoping it is dh thinking out loud!
I like Gregory, but i know that he doesn't, so its a no.
He is due home from work in a minute and I am getting ready to twist his arm about Omri, my love for today!

Marvin the Paranoid Android? Grin

I sort of like Graham but it does seem very much of my parent's generation. Good point about Grahams not having ASBOs though!

SherbetDibDab · 27/08/2010 20:10

Marvin - Marvin - Marvin.
I think the Marv thing is kind of cool, way more cool than Graham.

I'm sure I saw someone with a Marvin recently. It may have been here www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/aug/21/home-birth-women-natural-right but I can't get the Guardian website to work.
