Felicity

I really like Esther and Florence. Felicity nice in it's entirety, but is a bit of a mouthful for kids and always gets shortened.

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 11:34

LJS666 - thanks for your suggestions. I really like Verity too but we have ruled out anything starting with a V due to our surname which starts with a V also.

Do you think Florence would date more than Esther with it being a 'now name'?

wonderstuff · 25/08/2010 11:37

I think they are all lovely. Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix, but all lovely, don't think any of them would date much are all quite classic.

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 11:45

Emma Royd - It's actually my birthday today as well, so was wondering if I would be getting an additional birthday gift too. I have been feeling really achey again this morning but thats all for me too. Have you seen the August baby thread. I have found it really supportive these past few days - I am a really impatient mum to be though!

Have you decided if you are going to go with Felicity or was it Alice instead?

I really do like all three of the names I have listed. All through the pregnancy i have been swinging towards Esther but just needed the reassurance from other MN that it was the one to go with out of Esther, Beatrice/trix or Florence.

Apart from the NN, Florence being an 'it' name at the momemt, made me think it wouldn't date well. Although the combinations I like for the name would be Florence Isabelle or Florence Beatrice. The other combinations I like are:

Esther Isabelle
Esther Rose
Esther Beatrix
Beatrix Esther (thanks VS)
Beatrix Rose
Felicity Grace or Rose

Thanks for your feedback Domesticgodess and wonderstuff Smile

Sorry, should read apart from both the NN and Florence being an 'it name'....

Isabella is lovely and I like Felicity as well. I don't like Esther or Beatrice/ix and think Florence is just okay.

EmmaRoyd · 25/08/2010 16:14

I think we will go with Alice rather than Felicity as the 'flick' NN thing is putting me off.
Esther is my favourite of your names. I would go with Esther Rose but I like all the combinations you've mentioned. Very pretty.

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 19:47

Oh no,the Camerons have bagged Florence - I bet that means it is going to become even more popular Hmm

OP posts:
EmmaRoyd · 25/08/2010 21:15

maybe, or less popular!

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 21:27

Oohhh - you may be right Hmm

Felicity is such a pretty name. I recently met a mum (Esther) and daughter (Stella) and thought they were really nice names, which I'd never thought of as possibilities for future girls name.

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 22:24

I was the same up until hearing a little girl being called Esther. it made me look at the name in a different light Smile

OP posts:
DessieLou · 25/08/2010 22:41

Esther Rose is lovely!

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 22:47

Thanks DessieLou. Can I ask, do you prefer it over the other names? Smile

OP posts:
DessieLou · 25/08/2010 22:50

I also like Beatrice Rose...so either Esther or Beatrice would be my choice.

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 22:55

Thanks for that DessieLou - I am finding it sooo hard deciding on a name. I know that when I see her we will know which name to choose. It's just with my DS we chose and announced a name, called it him for 4 days then changed our minds and had to quickly choose another name because we hadn't made a shortlist. The initial one just didn't some how suit him. So wanted to try and avoid this with a good shortlist this time around. Sorry for waffling on Smile

Isabella - beautiful name! sounds like a lovely willowy beautiful grownup person (and your baby will be a grown up for longer than she is a baby). Whilst she's little, you can abbreviate to Issi, Issy, Izzy, Isa, Bella, Belle.
my 2nd choice: Felicity. There's not many arounhd and it must be due for a revival. Could be abbreviated to Flissy? I must be honest, I wanted to be called Felicity myself when I was little!
My 3rd choice: Beatrice/Beatrix - abbreviated to Bea.
Florence/Esther - well those are both awful, sorry !

DessieLou · 25/08/2010 23:01

I think you are right, have a few shortlisted and see how it sounds when your little bundle arrives. Good luck...not long to go!
Let us know what you decide on!

lowrib · 25/08/2010 23:04

Esther is lovely.

Don't go for Florence unless you don't mind people thinking you've named your DD after the Cameron's baby

Rose and Grace are lovely but they're ridiculously popular as middle names.

Fecker · 25/08/2010 23:13

Happy Birthday! :)

I do like Isabella. Not wild about the other names but can I throw in Gabrielle/ Gabriella as a curveball?!

xxx

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 23:25

Thanks fecker - was sort of hoping for an additional birthday treat but so far I have just got backache. My EDD is oficially in 42 mins time. Maybe she will be one of those babies that do come on their due date or maybe not!

Thanks for your suggestions. Gabriella is lovely and one of my friends is called this, so this would make her happy. My other friend is Isabel so, good suggestions either way Smile

Sugarskyhigh and lowrib thanks for both your feedback. It really does help.
I still like Florence but it has become a little tarnished now the Camerons have used it. I am happy for them but frustrated for myself Confused

lowrib · 25/08/2010 23:37

Ooh happy birthday! Grin

Roz14 · 25/08/2010 23:45

Thanks lowrib. Im going to try and stay up until midnight so I can officially be up for the end of my birthday and the start of my due date. I have had a fab day eating way too much cake instead of drinking way too much wine as I would have normally done Grin

OP posts:
lowrib · 25/08/2010 23:50

Your due date's tomorrow? Ooh how exciting Grin

Mmm cake! Is this your first? I didn't crave anything at all during pregnancy then once I;d started BF, I craved cake and custard like it was going out of fashion. And twix bars (can't eat one now.) I lost weight too, it was my eat-cake-and-BF diet Grin
