we have less than 2 weeks to go and just cannopt find ANY NAMES that we feel anything other than lack of dislike for. have read every list / book going. are we just too hung up on this? should we just go for something common, simple, easy?
not brave enough to go for some that we like a bit more in case the child / everyone else dislikes it.

Stinky has your book arrived yet?

stinkypants · 26/08/2010 19:44

yes!! thank you for the recommendation - it's a great book! loads of helpful lists and info. am currently going through the boys' names - oscar is appealing to me today!! husband on the other hand has decided huw is a great name - the debate continues!

Glad you like it! Smile I love the fact that they write things like 'The name for a pipe-smoking bespeckled Grandpa' or 'a great name - for a butler'! Grin

stinkypants · 27/08/2010 12:17

From your boys list I like Felix the best. I know an almost 2 year old Oscar but do like Huw as well.

Girls:

Kirsty - not keen
felicity - know one, she's 4, OK
rhiannon - like this name a lot
isla - like this name a lot but quite popular recently I think
verity - love this. My DB has called his new daughter this
rachel - no
jessica - no
brooke - no
ruth - no
connie - quite nice but friend of mine was called this and everyone called her Miss Lingus Grin

Felix is lovely.
Also like Rufus, Rory, Hamish & Jethro.

Love Felicity & Verity.

JudyJetson · 27/08/2010 16:09

I think you have a lovely selection there. I do like Felix and Ruth the most. I only know one little Felix and he really suits his name, once baby is here people tend to forget all of the associations that went before (cat food) and just regard it as baby's name. Good luck with your choosing. :)

diddl · 27/08/2010 17:30

Could I just also mention Silas?

stinkypants · 27/08/2010 18:03

omg - would never have thought of that for connie!!! hee hee!
felix seems to be very well liked... we need to avoid the letter R unfortunately as certain key people cant say it too well if in middle of words - eg rory!!
verity is lovely, i agree - and i only know one who is an adult. i also love ruth as just so simple and warm sounding.
silas - hmmmmm - is it something related to farms and sewage systems? what am i thinking of?!
thank you so much for your opinions - it's so good to know what people think.

Go for Felix. I really wanted it for my DS 3 years ago and was talked out of it by some friends and family members as being 'a cats name'. I get so envious now when I hear other boys called that name. I too at the time was just not 'brave'. Go for it - it's fab
