What do you think of Hester as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

i love the name! its my grandmothers name and i used esther as a derivation as my daughters middle name. i think its old fashioned but rather beautiful...clearly in a minority though :)

I love it.

Never mind Hester in The Scarlett Letter or A Prayer for Owen Meany; the best Hester is the difficult but brilliant heroine in Philip Reeve's "Mortal Engines" YA series of books.

Not keen, but if you love it , who cares what we think?Grin

I like it - I know a grown up Hester and it really suits her. I've not read the Owen Meaney book - but no one mentioned Philip Pullman's Hester, who I think may have been a hare in His Dark Materials Triology... she dies in the book, the only bit in all 3 books I welled up at (and so did my DH!)Id go for it - judging by the feedback on here its not going to be popular overnight.

Once knew an Ester, she was known as Ester the Molester.

I like Hester, strangely prefer it to Esther even though they are so similar.

I know an Elspeth, which I think is quite a nice name despite the woman I know who owns it being a complete biatch!
