If you were to chose the name would you go for Rachel or Rachael? And is it one of those names that if you say too much it sounds weird?

Rachel - otherwise she'll spend her life spelling it out to people.

Lovely name btw Smile

moomaa · 20/08/2010 20:03

Rachel, I like it too.

hester · 20/08/2010 20:05

Rachel. Beautiul name, which I lobbied for for dd1, but to my surprise a lot of people (including dp) don't really like it. I think it's lovely.

catinthehat2 · 20/08/2010 20:11

I know it's not a straightforward spell, and I like this name a lot, but I really like it with an "A" when it's written down, I would be really really tempted........

mathanxiety · 20/08/2010 20:16

I would spell it Rachel too. I think it's a gorgeous name, and I know a good few under age 16.

NoTeaForMe · 20/08/2010 20:16

Rachael, much better!

TitchyWitch · 20/08/2010 20:26

Ooh, I read the first few replies and thought definitely Rachel then and then a few people said Rachael!f Interestingly my iPad spellcheck likes Rachel and not Rachael.

Rachel it is my name and so I know from experience this is the way everyone automatically spells it so if you go for the other one she will always have to say "Rachael with an a e" and I bet that would get pretty boring also it doesn't alter the pronunciation one bit so it's just awkward for the sake of it also it's spelt Rachel in the bible if your interested in such things. Sorry id grammer a bit off it's friday and I've started on the wine!

MALIMOO78 · 20/08/2010 20:45

My best friend in school was a Rachael. Loads of people spelt it wrong and she got Racheal alot too. So Rachel would be my choice.

englishmummyinwales · 20/08/2010 20:45

I'm always amazed at how many people spell it Rachael when they have to write it down, although have only ever met a couple of people for whom this is their spelling.

It should be Rachel, it is a classic biblical name and should be spelt as such (in my somewhat biased opinion....)

withorwithoutyou · 20/08/2010 20:47

Rachel, and it's a fabulous name!

willsywoo · 20/08/2010 21:34

Rachael is such a lovely name...is Rachel pronounced Rashel.Omg,you're right,it's starting to look wrongConfused

robino · 20/08/2010 21:39

I'd go for Rachel. I taught a Racheal [sic] once - birth certificate spelling mistake and now I cannot for the life of me spell Racheal/ Rachael. It has hurt my head to even write all three versions in this and try to figure out which ones are correct Grin

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 21:40

Noooooooo to Rashel. I hate that.

sunfunandmum · 20/08/2010 21:41

Rachel - keep it simple!

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 21:41

Went to school with somebody called Rochelle, which I think is horrible.

Rachel is just simple and classic BUT I do think it can sound a bit hard and I hate Rach. Tis my name btw, so I'm allowed to insult it!

weegiemum · 20/08/2010 21:42

I have a Rachel who is 6. It is an utterly gorgeous name and you should certainly use it!!

(she is named for her paternal great-grandmother - who sadly died 2 weeks before she was born though we were going to use it anyway. So it is also timeless, which I really like. No-one can "date" a Rachel).

Raejj · 20/08/2010 21:43

You'dbe amazed how many people automatically assume it has the extra a. Rachael Grin

weegiemum · 20/08/2010 21:46

We also went for the "basic" spelling as we have a complicated foreign surname - she'll probably spent her life spelling that!! (plus I was already doing it - my older dd is Katherine and I am still always saying "with-a-K-and-an-i-n-e" !!)

FourEyesGood · 20/08/2010 21:56

Another vote for Rachel. Rachael always makes me think it ought to be pronounced with a hard "ch", like Michael (not that I've ever met anyone who pronounces it Ray-kull...).

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 20/08/2010 22:09

Rachael.

MrsJohnDeere · 20/08/2010 22:15

Rachel.

Otherwise she'll forever have to say her name is 'Rachel with an A'.

NormanNorris · 20/08/2010 22:41

Rachel

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 20/08/2010 22:44

I like Rachael.
(I am Rachael)
(and I don't think it's much of a hassle asking for the extra 'a' Smile)
