Hi

At the moment this is our favourite girls name. My only reservation is that as an adult and for a career is it enough of a proper name?

Thanks

I'd definitely go for Maddy (full name Madeleine) over Maisie. It's much less popular, and she'd have the option of using a proper grown-up name should she ever become Prime Minister.

I don't like Maisie, I'm afraid. It is too cutesy and reminds me of Maisie Mouse.

I much prefer Margaret or Madeleine.

SirBoobAlot · 19/08/2010 22:12

Its a very "cute" name, and very popular, though I don't dislike it. I have a friend called Maisie, and it suits her.

I prefer Madeleine, though.

I love Maisie for a little girl but would want to make sure she could be called something more grown up if she wanted to, one day. Margaret with Maisie as a nickname would be lovely.

NoTeaForMe · 19/08/2010 22:27

Problem is we really can't have Margaret as a proper name so that's out! Nothing really sounds like a long, proper version of maisie and we don't want to name her something long for the sake of it if that makes sense?!

I also think it is a cutesy, popular name...but I really like it! DH and I have talked about Margaret, called Maisie, for a future DD. (Also Penelope called Poppy, so there you are-I LIKE the cutesy names :o)

Is there another long name you could use?

PosieParker · 20/08/2010 07:58

It's very very popular here, in the SW, but I like it. And I don't think you can really say how an adult will sound with that name, lots of names become acceptable as people get older because they're used to it.

PosieParker · 20/08/2010 07:59

And even more Maddie/Madelines.

messylittlemonkey · 20/08/2010 13:27

I have a nearly 5yo Maisie, so yes from me! I just don't get this whole thing about names sounding strange when child is older - these types of names are old lady names!

Maisie wasn't as common 5 years ago as it has become now, I know of two more locally.

What's wrong with a pretty name? No-one we've met has ever called it cute, always pretty or lovely.

NoTeaForMe · 24/08/2010 15:44

I have looked into how popular these 2 names are in 2009 (2010 list not out yet!) after being told how popular they are.

Maisie was number 63 and Madeleine didn't feature at all! Which is less reliable then? Mumsnet or top names lists?

I am not overly bothered about picking a popular name, but on the other hand wouldn't want to pick a name that every 3rd child has! I have taught year groups with 5 or so of the same name and I don't want that for my daughter!

I am getting overwhelmed with picking a name...
