Gloria or Joy

Please could you help with these names by telling us what you think. These aren't the final names, but we're whittling down our short list.
We made the mistake of mentioning Gloria to a friend and her reaction wasn't what we expected. So we need some neutral opinions from people not connected to us.

I have a friend who loves Gloria and has it shortlisted. She is uber cool so I expect the landscape is shifting as far as Gloria is concerned. It was the name of and old BF's cat so I can't comment intelligently I am afraid. :).

She is also considering Bliss which was a new one on me.

Joy, not keen. A bit late 50s early 60s.

Gloria is a lady in her 60s. Quite glamorous with that short, permed, blonde hair that ladies of a certain age have. She's very houseproud, likes things to be comfortable and neat. Doesn't like crudeness or swearing.

Joy is not so narrowly defined age-wise, or personality-wise. It would be my choice of the two. I have also seen it spelled Joye.

We could be the same person - dh and I were having this convo not very long ago (as you cant have Gloria and Joy in the same sibset.)
I choose Gloria.

Oh Gawd I have visions of two big busted, huge-hipped ever-smiling Jamaican women! I can't imagine either name on a baby, sorry.

It's my lovely Grandmas name, I wish I'd gad the guts to use it.

I actually don't really dislike Gloria. It's just a bit evangelical. Nice mn though.

Gloria, whilst objectively nice, is just too 1970s for the moment. It may have its time again

Joy is better but I prefer Felicity which has the same meaning.I really dont like Gloria-it sounds a bit headscarf and rollers to me.

I prefer Joy, but I absolutely love the name Seoighe (pr. Shoy-eh) which is an Irish approximation for Joyce or Joy.

Gloria is my mums name. I always used to think of a busty bleach blonde barmaid. Don't know why as my mum is none of those things. My opinion of it has changed and I now think it is lovely. It sounds cool and elegant to me now.

I think Joy is beautiful too.

Gloria - hmmm, not sure. It summons up images of an ageing barmaid for me

Joy is beautiful. It makes me feel joyous just saying the word.
