Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Girls
Isobel
Lizzie
Lucy
Tess

I like Lizzie the best and Isobel the least

autodidact · 16/08/2010 18:18

All fine. Lizzy with a y is better than ie. I'm not a massive "use the full name at all costs" person but I really like Eliza and Elizabeth and in this instance do think it'd be worth using one of those with Lizzy as a pet name.

Tess is my favourite from your list - it's on our list, too - but like MrsvWoolf - I've got reservations about it being a long enough name - it does feel like it should be short for something (and before you say it, I know it's short for Teresa/Tessa - just not sure I like those as 'proper' names).

proudfoot · 17/08/2010 00:11

Lucy is a brilliant name - I would go for that

Jenbot · 17/08/2010 08:05

I like Lucy best.

ValiumSingleton · 17/08/2010 08:11

Isobel, I prefer this scottish form. Popular in all its forms though

Lucy - not sure. I like the style of the name, simple, old-fashioned.... but I am not sure. I prefer Gracie which seems feistier. Or Susie which is more unusual for babies.

Lizzie - like it although prefer other forms of Elizabeth more.

Tess - awful.

Lizzie with Elizabeth on bc is the best choice there I think.
Tess is the worst.

zozzle · 17/08/2010 10:39

Love, love, love Tess

Elizabeth good too

Not keen on others

Atlasive · 17/08/2010 11:49

I like Lucy best from your list. I also like Isobel, although prefer Isabel(le) spelling, and Tess if used as a nickname.

Floois · 17/08/2010 12:00

Thankyou, it's so hard to choose a name!
If I chose Lizzie, she would be called Elizabeth so one day she could choose how to shorten it, or not.
Tess is a bit short, that's why I'm not sure and I don't like Teresa, and not sure about Tessa.....
Isobel is a bit too popular at the moment.....and is Lucy a bit boring?

Surname is Lewis by the way. Does Lucy Lewis sound silly?

Lizzy/Tess/Isobel/Lucy is due on Saturday!

LaDiDaDi · 17/08/2010 12:03

Lucy Lewis does souund silly and so does Lizzie Lewis Smile.

I think Isobel goes best with your surname and is a lovely name.

Floois · 17/08/2010 12:57

I just think it sounds like "Is a bell loose?". I may be thinking too much.

LuluF · 17/08/2010 14:12

It's your job to think about it too much!

I'm not all that keen on first names and last names beginning with the same letter - so that would discount Lucy and Lizzie for me.

I know what you mean about 'Is a Bell Loose', though.

And the other problem with Tess (apart from it sounding like it's short for something and not liking the something it's short for) is the 'S' sound at the end of it and the 'S' sound at the end of your surname - though that might not be a problem for you (and you might not have thought of it - sorry if you hadn't).

Are there any other derivatives of Elizabeth that you like/could think about using?

LaDiDaDi · 17/08/2010 17:04

I think that once you've had that "Is a bell loose" thought then it's going to stick in your head tbh.

What about

Clara
Harriet nn Hattie
Sadie
Verity

Atlasive · 17/08/2010 18:25

How about Isabella or Lucia, which might fit better with your surname than Isobel and Lucy?

Just a few more ideas too

Sophie Lewis
Emma Lewis
Jennifer Lewis
Susie Lewis
Eliza Lewis
Anna Lewis
Josephine Lewis
Ivy Lewis
Sadie Lewis
Rebecca Lewis
Abigail Lewis

Floois · 17/08/2010 19:14

I had thought of Susie, I like it but my husband doesn't.

Eliza Lewis sounds nice - and you could have Elizabeth on the BC.

If you like Susie - what about Susannah with nn Suki?
