DH and my Shortlist.

French Canadian DH, I'm English, we're living in the UK permenantly.

Had a terrible time trying to find a name which is not too frilly with our last name (very like 'La Rouge'), please feed back but go easy because I'm struggling with this soooooooo very much and I'm 35 wks now

Middle name Grace (family name)

Angéline Grace (would use Angélie as a family nn or GiGi - would want to avoid Angie tho :/ )
Eloïse Grace
Claudia Grace (the meaning does put me off a bit)
Elodie Grace
Sasha Grace
Evangeline Grace (I like all the nn's that could come from this both sweet and 'grown up' ones)

Pretty much in order of preference although, I love Evangeline, but a (not that close) friends baby has this and she would like it to stay 'unique' but 'its up to me' :S. Would still use Angelie or GiGi as nn's

Would you pronounce it onjeline^? That would be my preference.

Love love love Evangeline.

Elouise meh. (Elise I hate, but then I know someone called Elise who is yukky)

Claudia and Sasha both nice

FellatioNelson · 13/08/2010 03:09

Sorry, forgot Elodie. Pretty - quite girly/twee

Alouiseg · 13/08/2010 03:43

Not on your list but I love the French pronunciation of Agathe and Agnes.

autodidact · 13/08/2010 07:20

I like Eloise and Sasha.

sedgiebaby · 13/08/2010 07:55

FellatioNelson: Yes that is how we would pronouce Angeline/Agelie; onjeline/onjelee

DH loves Agelie, it sounds very pretty said the french way, less so in english, so would probably look to register Angeline if going for that as it is more 'grown up' for later in life.

Claudia is my favourite although the meaning (lame) would put my off

onadietcokebreak · 13/08/2010 09:11

Claudia is lovely.

Eloise ok

Not keen on the others

purplefish · 13/08/2010 09:20

I love Sasha, would be my choice if I were ever to have a girl (but I only produce boys and not planning on having any more children Grin )

sedgiebaby · 13/08/2010 17:42

If anyone is still there (love feedback still BTW) but can I also ask:

Would it be OK to use 'Angelie' but register Angeline or Evangeline because, all the french side of the family love Angelie from this list (said Onjelie) but we live in the UK that is a stretch for the English tongue....

I woulnd't want her to be at the Dr's and have her name called out as 'ann-jelly' as that sounds very ug to me!

I think Angelie as a nn for either Angeline or Evangeline would be very nice.

miamix · 13/08/2010 22:14

Our girls name is simply Angelie. Didn't realise it was a nickname :)

sedgiebaby · 14/08/2010 07:35

miamix - are you in the UK? how do people get along with pronouciation? Do they say 'Angie' or 'Ann-Jelly' or have you managed to get them to say it 'properly?!' it would help me to know, thank you

SoupDragon · 14/08/2010 07:40

i don't like Evangeline or Angéline but the others all work nicely.

I'd include the accents on the birth certificate but drop them for everyday UK use. I have a hyphen in mine and that's difficult enough.

SoupDragon · 14/08/2010 07:43

"I woulnd't want her to be at the Dr's and have her name called out as 'ann-jelly' as that sounds very ug to me!"

I think, in the scenario you describe, it will be badly pronounced. Friends and family will get the hang of it but people reading it from a list will, most likely, stuff it up.

capucine · 14/08/2010 08:37

J'adore Sasha Grace

LiquoriceLila · 14/08/2010 12:00

I like Claudia and Sasha best

sedgiebaby · 14/08/2010 13:55

Thank you for all the replies its quite mixed but I appreciate the feedback. Today I'm asking the English side of the family if they can manage to say Angelie 'properly' so we will see.

I like Eloise and Elodie best.

diddl · 14/08/2010 15:52

I like Claudia & Eloise-although prefer Elise.

fedupofnamechanging · 14/08/2010 20:21

My DD is Evangeline, so obviously I love it. Wrt Angelie as a nn,I think it does work and is a lovely abreviation. It is also beautiful as the proper name. I think that if you make a point of pronouncing it correctly at the drs surgery etc, other people will follow your lead particularly as your last name is also French sounding.

ValiumSingleton · 14/08/2010 20:23

Claudia and Sasha

The others are all very tutu

plonker · 14/08/2010 20:30

bandgeek · 17/08/2010 19:41
