I love it and have only met a couple. Is it surprisingly under-used?

Heard a few in the supermarket....very pretty name but suspect there are plenty of them.

compo · 09/08/2010 18:07

Reminds me of the baby in Neighbours Blush

Marne · 09/08/2010 18:08

I like it, i don't know any children called India and have only heard it a few times. If you like it, go for it.

lulabellamozerella · 09/08/2010 18:30

Only know of 1 who is 16/17 and is spelt Indiah... I prefer India spelling and think its lovely!

Flighttattendant · 09/08/2010 18:34

I only know of one. It's a very pretty name but I've never been there, so depending on your connection to the place it would vary as to the connotations it has.

Mooos · 09/08/2010 18:39

Why not be different and try Bangladesh?

ragged · 09/08/2010 18:51

I know one who is 4 & lovely, I vote go for it.

NorbertDentressangle · 09/08/2010 18:54

I've not heard of it being used recently but in a school near us (small fairly affluent rural town) there are apparently 3 in one small class (all aged about 10 yo) so it was obviously popular then

cece · 09/08/2010 18:57

My friend has an India and gets asked all the time whether they had a nice holiday in India 9 months before her arrival. Wink I think they find it a little annoying tbh. But nice name!

zenoushka · 09/08/2010 19:18

I love the name India. I met my husband in India so it has a special connection for us!

NiceCuppaT · 09/08/2010 21:19

I love it and don't know any.
Indi is a sweet nn

Alwaysworthchecking · 09/08/2010 21:25

It's a lovely name. None in dd's primary school, so far as I'm aware.

Grin at Mooos.

SecurusScriptor · 09/08/2010 21:26

DD's middle name is India, I know of 2 others. Clearly I think it's a lovley name.

AngryPixie · 09/08/2010 21:41

I know 2, think it's pretty

Kathleen123 · 10/08/2010 11:25

I know a 9 year old mixed race girl called India, her dad is British Indian and mum British. It really suits her.

I think it works best if there is a connection to India, either through travelling in India or family.

SirBoobAlot · 10/08/2010 13:02

I think its a silly name, same as China, regardless how you spell them. Its a country for goodness sakes.

And there are several around here.

Whelk · 10/08/2010 13:07

I like it but was put off it because of colonial connotations. Possibly over-cautious but still. I also agree that it works better with obvious connections to India

winnybella · 10/08/2010 13:32

What SirBoob and Whelk said.

SpiderWilliam · 10/08/2010 14:45

A friend teaches at a Catholic girls' boarding school where there are quite a few Indias. She says that the India's in the school are renowned for being spoiled trouble making brats. I think she would caution against the name.

Personally, I have never met any.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 10/08/2010 14:47

I love it!

Have a cousin called India and it so suits her!

Go for it!

muminthemiddle · 11/08/2010 10:49

Not popular where I am.

CoteDAzur · 11/08/2010 12:01

Friend's DD is India. She is 1yr old.

CoteDAzur · 11/08/2010 12:04

Btw, I'm mystified by "It so suits her" re a name like India.

Is she visibly Indian or shaped like the map of India?

If not, how does the name India suit her? I'm genuinely interested.

Whelk · 11/08/2010 12:38

lol Cote!!

ValiumSingleton · 11/08/2010 12:43

know a couple - I prefer Andrea and think that's a really good alternative which is just as attractive and will date less, and be less ...... wide open for various criticisms.
