If, like me, you are searching for an original yet classic baby name, then this list might come in handy. It's the top 1000 US names from that period. Will have to see if I can find a UK version.

(BTW some of them are definite no-no's.. Santa anyone??!)

Guadalupe is my favourite Grin

That's interesting, my son's name is in 400s now, and it was in the 400s back then. My daughter's name is in the 100s now and was in the 100s back then!! That seems quite..... Confused symetrical!

MummyLovesSadie · 08/08/2010 18:43

Valium you obviously picked very consistent names! Grin

dd's name (Polly) hasn't really budged either, fromwhat I can tell.

bluebump · 08/08/2010 21:46

I think the longer version of my sons name was actually more popular then than it is now, although it is getting more popular lately.

I love the name Gertrude. Reallly love it, but it never goes down well.

scaredyetexcited · 08/08/2010 21:53

My 98 year old nan is a Gertrude. However she never liked it, and stated to everyone "Call me Gert and leave off the rude part"

darcymum · 08/08/2010 21:54

So, on the boys side when its just one letter, W, number 61, for example, is that the name?

darcymum · 08/08/2010 21:55

Do you call the 'Doubleu' or just 'wwu'

darcymum · 08/08/2010 21:56

Them not the

DuelingFanjo · 08/08/2010 21:57

My grnny was Gertrude. I really like the shortened 'Gertie'.

scaredyetexcited · 08/08/2010 21:59

I don't dislike the shortened 'Trudie'

MollieO · 08/08/2010 22:00

My first name doesn't make the list at all but my surname appears as a girl's name - definitely not a usual first name!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/08/2010 00:57

I was wondering about the single letters, but was thinking maybe they registered a letter instead of a middle name, like (was it?) Harry H Truman.

82 people were named Dock?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/08/2010 00:58

And over 100 were named Melba - the Jordans of yesteryear
