As in the saint/town. I love it but I'm wondering whether I'm a little odd.

Too much like All Bran.

montmartre · 06/08/2010 11:25

Bit too saintly for me! [atheist]

meadowlarks · 06/08/2010 11:32

All Bran? I clearly need to branch out in the cereal department.

montmartre - Funnily enough, I'm an atheist too. I just like old names, and since saints were the only people documented well, they're usually saint's names.

I like it, I know one, but he is in France. Good solid name. I like Anselm too.

PandaEis · 06/08/2010 12:30

sounds like alpen...not my cup of tea a cereal sounding name...Smile

up to you though its your DCSmile

LaundryLyne · 06/08/2010 13:46

I like it, it's a very nice name :)

ragged · 06/08/2010 13:49

Would think you said Almond.
Which I think might be cool as a Girl's name. :)

meadowlarks · 06/08/2010 14:53

PandaEis - Are you pronouncing it "Al-Ben"? It's "All-buhn". Otherwise I don't see how it could be miscontrued as Alpen, or Almond, for that matter. "Ar-mund" is really different to "All-buhn".

comtessa · 06/08/2010 14:57

I like it. Could be Albie for short, which I really like too. Different without being too way out.

GladioliBuckets · 06/08/2010 16:07

Would always remind me of this guy!

PandaEis · 06/08/2010 16:51

no meadow in my accent alpen sounds like AL-pn so alban would sound , to me, in my accent as AL-bn so very similarSmile alot of names sound different in different regions so not the end of that name and if you like it then its not anyone elses opinion that countsSmile

cookielove · 06/08/2010 16:54

I assume you don't live there, or in herts, other wise quite cute

mathanxiety · 06/08/2010 17:10

I love it. Love Urban too.

mrsfred · 06/08/2010 17:14

I like it. It's my dads middle name!

ValiumSingleton · 06/08/2010 17:15

Well, I love St Albans, lovely place, but no, not as a name.

meadowlarks · 06/08/2010 18:45

PandaEis - Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude, obviously it's difficult when I can't hear you say it. I'm trained to hear my boring Southern accent. Grin

cookielove - No, I don't. Actually, I've never been to either. Like I said, I just like the name.

There was one at my school. Posh family with a double barrelled surname. Suited them though. I think many "posh" names from 20 years ago are much more democratised these days.

So...I say why not.

cookielove · 06/08/2010 18:51

Well there you go, its fine.

meadowlarks · 06/08/2010 18:56

SpiderWilliam - Oh no, was he awful?

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/08/2010 18:58

I know it's not spelled the same but it just reminds me of Damon from Blur. Grin

I wouldn't thank you if you called me Alban. Also agree that it's very cereal-esque.

meadowlarks · 06/08/2010 19:01

Curly - "cereal-esque" just made my day Grin Well, I was going to post another thread soon about a similarly old/unusual name that could never be called "cereal-esque". Maybe I'll stick with that.

Our priest is called Alban! Has never heard the name before then, I like it.

LaundryLyne · 06/08/2010 19:25

A few others along similar lines....... Aidan, Aloysius, Anselm, Aubrey, Augustine, Augustus, Artemas, Aurelio and Austin :)

meadowlarks · 06/08/2010 19:29

Pauline - Yay! Good for his parents Grin

Laundry - Thanks.
