Love it, Scarlett too.

SpanishLady · 05/08/2010 16:48

I like it and am considering it if we have a girl (though have feeling it is a boy!) - if I use it I will spell it Scarlett and may use Letty as a nn.

I did worry if the 'Scar' bit was too harsh and if it might be a bit , well, poncy, but all reactions have been great - also in my mind's eye I am imagining a dark haired, blue eyed child (my colouring) and whilst I dont want a femme fatale, I would like a high spirited girl which the name probably because of Ms O'Hara does suggest.

My other girls name is Ines - so currently anway our top 2 girl options are:

Scarlett Frances
Ines Frances

Frances after my mum x

BelligerentGhoul · 05/08/2010 16:52

I like it and with the double 't' ending. Pondered it for dd2 but dp wasn't fond.

SpanishLady · 05/08/2010 16:57

should say - I know one Scarlett and she is very fair/blonde - it suits her

I don't particularly like it, sorry.

mathanxiety · 06/08/2010 06:29

Dislike intensely, no matter how many Ts.

ValiumSingleton · 06/08/2010 09:14

I also intensely dislike this one. I just can't get past the fact that the first syllable is scar.

I like Juliet with one t though!

ValiumSingleton · 06/08/2010 09:18

ps, SpanishLady, you may well predict your children's colouring correctly! but mine have surprised me each time. Interesting thread in itself, but my children's father much darker than I am, so I just thought that both children would have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes, but neither of them has that combo. My dc1 has blue eyes and my dc2 has golden coloured hair. They look a bit Brazilian I think. I'm glad I didn't call them (eg) Leila and Bruno so that they would be named to suit how I predicted they were going to turn out. Genes funny things.

foxyjbro99 · 06/08/2010 09:49

I have a Scarlett Florence (nn Scarly) & get lots of positive comments on her name.
She has lived up to her name though! Very high spirited!! Grin
Only thing I don't like is that she gets called Charlotte a lot - hadn't even thought of that.

going · 06/08/2010 09:53

When I had ds a lady on the post-natal ward called her new baby Scarlett. SHe was only just over 5lbs and the name really didn't suit her probably becuase it seems a harsh name and she was so tiny, sure she has grown into the name now.

emmyloo2 · 06/08/2010 09:55

Dislike immensely.

In my mind it is a bit naff. Just my opinion but not to my taste. I think there are much nicer less names out there.

notso · 06/08/2010 10:00

SpanishLady Scarlett Frances and Frances Scarlett are on my shortlist!

I love Scarlett, my Grandma always called me Katie Scarlett so it reminds me of her. My only concern is if this baby takes after DH it will have Ginger hair and I'm not sure if being called Scarlett would be good in such a case.

AccioPinotGrigio · 06/08/2010 10:06

My niece is called Scarlett and I think it is lovely. We do call her Lettie for short.

Frances is also a family name for us and a lovely one that is not used so often these days.

SpanishLady - Ines is a gorgeous name, I think you should go for it.

SpanishLady · 06/08/2010 10:33

I would like Ines but DH not so sure - I am half spanish (and born there) but DH is English through and through and seems abit scared of 'foreign names', hough ironically we have a German surname!

Londres - re your thread posters I would say that Scarlet/Scarlett certainly envokes a response and its a name that cant/wont be ignored!!

muminthemiddle · 06/08/2010 12:12

I think Scarlett is lovely.

mistlethrush · 06/08/2010 12:15

There were 3 in ds's nursery - and he now has one in his reception year class - so its become one of those quite popular names recently...

Londres · 06/08/2010 16:35

Thanks for opinions. The nickname Scar does worry me and the fact that quite a few celebs have used it recently. Letty is a lovely nn and will probably go for this as the short form.

I didn't think it was that popular? I've seen it ocasionally in siggys on other parenting sites but don't know of any in real life.

mistlethrush · 09/08/2010 09:21

As I say - ds, now 5 - had 3 in his group at nursery when he was 3 - there's one in his class at school now - different from the others - so whilst he has a traditional name, he's never had anyone in the same peer-group with it, whilst he knows 4 Scarlets in the area....

foreverastudent · 09/08/2010 10:27

needs the 2nd t

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 09/08/2010 18:18

I love Scarlet (one t for me), Scarlet Rae is top name of choice for us

I know it's perceived as popular/common/chavvy but it's the one name that my opinion of it hasn't been affected by the masses (am usually clearly very easily swayed by generalised judgements!)

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 09/08/2010 18:19

hmmmm might be going off it at the thought of letty as a nn
