I am not pg but wondered what people thought of day and month names - I have always liked them. Can think of -

  • January Jones
  • Wednesday Adams
  • November Paynter

Any others?

June seems dated, is it coming back? My mum has friends called June.

Tuesday Weld

I don't think January or November work, tbh. April, May, and June are the only months that sound like a proper name, although for the other months you could have a derivation, eg Jan, Augustine, Octavia.

Wednesday Adams was a cool character but I think that someone with a 'day of the week' name may not be taken very seriously in real life. It could be great if they are an outgoing, alternative type, but not so good if they are shy or if they want a serious career as a doctor or barrister.

I've never heard of Sunday Urban, off to Google him/her.

Nicole Kidman's daughter isn't it?

foreverastudent · 01/08/2010 21:40

August(a) works.

telsa · 01/08/2010 23:17

Julie - a form of July and a rather pretty name that is due a comeback, after having been soooo popular in the 1970s.

telsa · 01/08/2010 23:18

In Russia, babies got called October, after the month of the revolution.

Jbck · 01/08/2010 23:32

I like August & Wednesday.

Colliecross · 01/08/2010 23:55

Isn't Friday named after Freya, I dimly seem to remember.

juneybean · 01/08/2010 23:57

I am actually considering June recently, and it's nothing to do with my username lol

maktaitai · 02/08/2010 00:00

In theory they are great. Unfortunately for me I was a big fan of pony books, so my only reference is April, May and June Cholly-Sawcutt from the Jill books, who were figures of fun.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/08/2010 06:10

I love April (and Avril), although it does make me think of Spike's girlfriend in Hi-Di-Hi.

LynetteScavo · 02/08/2010 13:45

Juliet is OK, but generally I don't like month/day names.

Pasiphae · 02/08/2010 14:06

Thursday Next! Jasper Fforde is great

I think it's quite victorian to use "timely" names

I like the idea, but it's a tricky balance between the silly and the poetic...

June, August, April, May are fun, but December is a lot harder to wear. Although I like January...

Autumn and Summer are easier, sound wise, than Winter and Spring.

I like all the days of the week, they make quirky name, but I would find it "cheesy" to give the day of week you were born on as the name.

MathsMadMummy · 02/08/2010 14:09

my friend's surname is january - they aren't parents yet but have already, to their dismay, decided to rule out one of their favourite names - april!

my DD's middle name is May, we didn't really think about it being a month it was suggested by DH's kids and we thought it was pretty. DD was actually born on her due date in June, so I made up this little rhyme for her:

Jessica May was born in June
not a day too late or a day too soon

MathsMadMummy · 02/08/2010 14:10

and yes I think you're right about Freya/Friday

Lonnie · 03/08/2010 00:52

I used to knwo a Tuesday always thougth it was pretty for her would never use it myself.

my friends birthday is 31t Dec she told me had she been a Jan 1st birthday her mother had intended to name her Jan

Tuschinski · 03/08/2010 11:19

I love Juno. I know a few month name babies who weren't born that month. I find it a bit odd but when I say it to anyone else they think I'm mad.

emptyshell · 03/08/2010 15:51

I went to school with an Autumn, and I used to teach a Sommer (pronounced Summer). Not come across a Winter or Spring yet.

CrunchyFrog · 03/08/2010 19:37

I so wanted to call DC3 Tuesday, had he been a girl. But he wasn't, so he has a sensible name. Ish.
