If I already have an Eliza, what do you think I might like her little brother or sister to be called?

Other names kicked around so far include:

Rosina
Emily

James
Rufus

I know of an Eliza and Hu go

ValiumSingleton · 31/07/2010 17:37

Margot

Eliza(beth) very classic and Margot a cool nick name from Margaret.

I like Rufus. James is ok but it's hard to go oooh yeah over it!

mathanxiety · 31/07/2010 18:01

Rosina is lovely.

I also suggest Dinah and Tabitha, or Greta (agree with ValiumSingleton about variations of Margaret and Elizabeth going well together).

For buys I like both Rufus and James -- again, Rufus is the more unusual. I like Hamish more than James.

ReasonableDoubt · 31/07/2010 18:39

Not keen on Rosina. Rosanna or Rosa much nicer.

zenoushka · 31/07/2010 19:52

Those names are all good but I don't reckon I would use Emily for fear of getting in a "names-beginning-with-E" rut should there be more babies.

Have you considered Maggie? It's my current fave (today).

LaRagazzaInglese · 31/07/2010 20:36

i know twins Eliza and Sam (Samuel)

treacletart · 31/07/2010 20:38

'Ooh' at Tabitha & Polly.

Margot is well cool, though I'm not sure we're posh enough to pull it off.

Emily was my fave first time around - but so many others have got there before me and I didn't want to wear it out.

DH says Rufus aint never gonna happen.

He loves James (as do I) but I'm not keen on using it for a first name for the same reasons as Emily.

I also like Katie with Kate for when she's a grown up lawyer/dr/other very serious and to be respected person.

The other difficult thing is that our surname is very distinctively English and we have absolutely no exotic ancestors to draw inspiration from - not even scots/irish or welsh.

PixieOnaLeaf - How do you pronounce Dulcie? I always read it as Dulchie.

Lonnie · 31/07/2010 21:33

Eloise

Estella if you want to go with the "E" pronounciation.

I like Rosina

Also like Roseanna as suggested Suzannah would work well too

NotAnotherNewNappy · 31/07/2010 21:51

Rosina was my nan's name

DH hates it - grrr.

His nan was called Elsie. It may be due for a revival - but I think it's too similar.

But Estella or Estelle (as in Great Expectiations) I could really like. Doesn't it mean star?

Elsie and Eliza are both variations of Elizabeth, so I don't think you can use Elsie.

MrsY · 01/08/2010 14:18

Like Dulcie - with soft 's' sound.

I think Romilly is nice and goes well with Eliza, or possibly Mallory. If you like Emily, what about Emeline?

NotAnotherNewNappy - Estelle does mean star, same as Stella etc.

For a boy, Maxim and Elliot spring to mind.
