Darcy or Darcie?

DD is 10mths and called Darcy, before she was born it was going to be spelt Darcie but when all the congratulations on your new baby cards arrived every one had spelt it Darcy.
So because we have a surname that always needs spelling and didnt want her to have to spell both names we went with Darcy. Funnily enough she now gets a mixture of Darcy & Darcey and people usually ask how its spelt anyway.

For some reason over the last few weeks, every time I call her name I see the DARCIE in my mind.
Would I be totally insane to change the spelling now?

Darcy looks right to me.

Darcie makes me look twice to see if it's Dulcie or Darcie.

Not sure. I suppose if it's really important to you it would be worth doing. What does your partner think, if you have one? I personally prefer Darcy but do think it's important for parents to be happy with their choice.

Darcy for me.

TheNextMrsDepp · 24/07/2010 21:27

I've never seen it spelt Darcie, and I think it looks a bit "affected". Darcy is such a pretty name though.

To be honest, virtually every name in existence has an alternative spelling, so I wouldn't worry too much if the odd person gets it wrong.

I like Darcy.

valium - I love Dulcie, in fact most of the names I shortlisted ended ie.
Kizzie
Marnie
Marcie

but the only name DH and I could agree on was Darcy.
I kind of feel like her name didnt get as much time spent in the choosing. DH refused to discuss names through the pregnancy and we had chosen Darcy for my 3yr old DS, had he been a girl. So I guess I feel I didnt work hard enough to choose her name compared to the hours that went into choosing my DS's name. And Darcie is more in keeping with the name I really loved - Kizzie.
Typing this though Im thinking may be that would be a constant reminder that I didn't get the name I loved.
Oh I don't know!
Have not mentioned this to DH as Im sure it wouldnt be a favourable reaction!!

Darcy is lovely and I think it's much more sophisticated spelled this way than with an -ie, which looks a bit twee and babyish.

I think she'll thank you for calling her Darcy over Kizzie! I can understand the appeal - it has a really fun sound - but it does sound a little bit like something you'd name a pet. I desperately want to have a daughter named Persephone but she probably wouldn't thank me for it!!

Nevertheless, if the spelling is so important to you, then change it. Darcie isn't awful, by any means.

Apparently Darcy is a variant of Darcie. I would go for the original version of Darcie.

proudfoot · 26/07/2010 02:31

Keep Darcy. The Darcie spelling looks twee and everyone will automatically spell it Darcy anyway (as you saw with the cards). Changing the spelling now would be very confusing! Darcy with a Y is pretty and seems less babyish

Darcy

randomimposter · 27/07/2010 11:56

Darcy much nicer IMO.

zenoushka · 27/07/2010 13:42
