Right ladies, need some ideas for my friend's baby girl to be. She wants an Irish name to match her other kids but most of her favourites have been used by other family members. So other than

Aoife
Orla
Sinead
Grainne
Emer
Caoimhe
Aine

all of which she can't use/won't repeat, do you have any other nice ideas?

Saoirse(freedom) and Duireann (Dur - in), Claoine (clean - a), Roisín

BarbieLovesKen · 23/07/2010 23:41

Naoise (Nee - sha) which is actually a boys name but is turning unisex as many are adopting as a girls name (when I say many, not really, is quite unusual, I love it)

whatcanigetyou · 23/07/2010 23:45

Cara, Oona, Ailbhe, Niamh

Saoirse is lovely

Rockbird · 24/07/2010 00:18

I've heard of a girl named Siamsa, which isn't traditionally a name, but I think is beautiful

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 24/07/2010 12:55

Clodagh

MrsY · 24/07/2010 13:12

Some of these names are really pretty to look at, but I haven't a scooby how to pronounce them! Could someone assist me?

BTW, I've always liked Siobhan.

Rockbird · 24/07/2010 13:57

Dearbhla - Dervla
Saoirse - Seer-sha
Aisling - Ashlin
Clodagh - Clo-da

Roughly speaking...

TheNextMrsDepp · 24/07/2010 14:08

We went for Sorcha rather than Saoirse mainly for the pronounciation/spelling aspect - a little easier for the English side of the family!

MrsY · 24/07/2010 15:18

Thanks, Rockbird. What about:

Aoife
Caoimhe
Aine

?!

NL3 · 24/07/2010 15:31

MrsY More pronunciations for you.....
Aoife is pronounced Ee-fa (like Eva, but with a v).

Aine is Orn-ya.

I had to get dh's help for Caoimhe - he struggled and he's actually Irish! He thinks it's Kee-vy.

carciofi · 24/07/2010 16:36

Caoimhe is pronounced Kwee-va or Kee-va.
