Meredith - shorten to Merry or Meri?

DD2 is 4 weeks and i still can't decide on how to spell the shortened version of her name - Merry or Meri ... or even Merrie?!

i know it doesn't really matter but i'm about to send out thankyou cards so i figure i should at least be consistent! We've been calling her Meri/Merry rather than Meredith since she was born.

anyone know a Meredith and what they shorten it to?

It's a lovely name; I only know one Meredith and it's never shortened.

I know one, shortened to Mez.

What I call my son at home is not what I'd put on a card...

why do you need to shorten it? it's such a lovely name on its own!

my friends got a dd called meredith and she shortens it to meri. in fact, the only time the little girl gets called "meredith" is when she is being told off!

I prefer Merry or Merrie. Meri is a bit confusing - if I hadnt already heard her name I would wonder whether it should be pronounced "Meh-ree" or "Meh-rih"

Meri, it's more Welsh looking.

The one I know shortens it to Edith or Edi, Mary springs to mind though

Then she can change it to Meri when she is about 12 in order to put a little circle or heart over the "i"......

Prefer Merry

The Meredith I know started Meri but people could never pronounce it or thought it was spelt Merry anyway so she now goes by Merry.

My partners middle name is Meridith. Unfortunately I am not a lesbian.

I have one and she is Merry. Happily it fits entirely with her personality and I have had lots of compliments about it as a nn.

My dd2 is Meredith and is definatley a Merry.

Some people get it confused with Mary (Midlands accent), so she has already explained it herself as Merry, as in Merry Christmas

Yes - it's a common name in Wales for a boy.

But they say it differently - For a girl its pronounced Mer-a-dith, but for a boy it's pronounced Mur-ed-dith.

gah, ok now i'm still undecided! We started off spelling it Merry, but i started thinking it didn't 'look' like a name, and if we stuck to that spelling by the time she was in school she might get teased at xmas time - or if she didn't have a very merry personality!

I think Meri seems more like a name, and i agree with the fact it's more welsh looking but somehow I still like the look of Merry written down and it's quite cute.

Maybe i should just write Meredith on the thankyou cards and give myself more time to think about it!
