Struggling to find a cornish boys name

My OH is a scot DD1 is named Isla, he got his scottish name!

I am cornish so I want our 2nd child to have a cornish name. Hubby is very conservative, especially for a boys name. His only suggestion is Tom or Tam. Tam I do like but it's another bloomin scots name so not fair!

Do not want Demelza or Karenza, Trevelyan, Piran, those are jaw achingly boring if you are cornish. Surname is Bevan

I LOVE Jago. Really cool I think and can be shortened to Jay which is very normal and conservative sounding.

I am worried that Tean is a bit, ahem, chavvy? (winces away from possible flaming-sorry) and the same for Tyack-because you know it will be shortened to Ty. I am not sure about Ennor but i think it's unusual and therefore interesting.

I love Merryn for a girl. Have also just head of a new baby girl Lamorna.
I know a little boy called Sennen, which is nice, only people do ask if he was conceived there.
I agree with you about Tean tho, bit chavvy.

Tried out Sennen and lamorna on hubby but to no avail!

Sorry should have said it's aminly the boys name were struggling with. The girls names are ok with him and his top choice is merryn, I think Merryn Bevan sounds a bit weird in the mouth though.

yes I like Jago, its great (am assuming it's pronounced with the J sound not a Y sound sorry have german in family)

I think Merryn Bevan is lovely and leaves lots of scope for middle names.
I have never known it was 'Jaygo' as I thought it was 'Yaygo' IYSWIM, like Jaeger.

I have a Jago aged 8 who is cool dude, not many Jagos round here - south east, I know its very popular in cornwall.
I dont tend to shorthen it though

I named my ds (2) Jago thinking that he could shorten it to Jay if he wanted. I decided to have the courage of my convictions though and not shorten it myself. Bafflingly my MIL, who was the one who suggested the name, will only refer to him as Jay..

I'm not Cornish, so hope I'm not about to say anything stupid, but isn't Petroc a Cornish name? I knew one at uni and have always liked the name, but have no roots that could justify using the name myself.

My niece's middle name is Sennen, and I know a (7yr old) Jago, who's sister's middle name is Sennen too.

We were going to have a Jago if we had a boy (didn't), and then we got a dog, so we called him Jago instead

Jago is fab. We have a couple at school and it works well. It sounds great with Isla, too.

You've inspired me to look up some Cornish names now am fascinated by them! I found Kitto, which is pretty cool for a boy. Is it really used in Cornwall?

My favourite Cornish name is Kenver for a boy. I've never been a fan of Jago but I like Tremain and Ennor.

I've always pronounced Ennor "Enna" but I suppose it's meant to have a Cornish drawl to it? Like "Ennorrr"

Think Jago is cool and love Ennor too. There was a girl at my old school with the lovely and v unusual cornish name of Breock. Also, what about Endellion...or is that too Tolkien-esque?
