How do you pronounce Dilys?

Looking for a nice welsh name that is simple and not overly welsh...if that makes sense...to be a sister to John David and Anwen Rose. I have come across Dilys but Im not sure how to pronounce it properly...also looking for suggestions for a pretty middle name to go with a short, hard sounding surname. All help and suggestions appreciated.

The emphasis is on the Dill bit.

If you have Sky TV, go to channel 619 - Cartoonito, and look for Fireman Sam. There's a character called Dilys on that, which will show you how to pronounce it.

My great aunty Dilys pronounced it dill-iss with the emphasis on the d if that makes sense but with quite a pronounced sss at the end.

I would say Dill-iss but a Welsh speaker would probably say Dull-iss as colditz says.

I am a Welsh speaker and it's definitely Dill-iss, if it was pronounced Dull-iss it would be written Dylis

deffo Dill-iss, not Dul-iss. Welsh speaking people wouldn't prounounce it Dul-iss.

Dilys is Dill-iss - prefer Delyth myself. Dilys maybe shotrened to Dil which is fine for a man (tis one of my uncles names) but not for a girl

Ah, am getting confused between the i and the y. I just remember that Dylan would be pronounced 'Dul-lan'.

Bronwen is spelt with an "e", if you are going to be pedantic (which I am).

And Branwen is nicer imo... (google it for the story of the lovely Branwen from the Mabinogi...)

Thank you for all your suggestions... i like Bronwen and Bethan but as we already have an Anwen i didnt feel like it sounded right.

My main concern with welsh names is pronunciation, as we dont actually live in wales so trying to find names that are spelt similar to how they are said...middle name doesnt need to be welsh particularly, as long as the 2 names sound good together

I love Seren-I think it means star
