My DH has suddenly developed an opinion!

Ok I am 33 weeks with Dc3 and it's a little girl.

So far he has not showed too much interest in name suggestions I have made and have all been met with 'yes thats nice' or 'whatever you want, love' ARGH!

So i finally made a decision and chose Scarlett. Well for about a week anyway because yesterday DH came home from work and announced that he HAD been thinking of names (but had just thought it was too early to be making any definate decisions) and had decided his choice was Peyton. (spelling?)

I'm not sure i like it??? It's ok but i don't LOVE it and very unsure it would suit an adult.

What do you all think? It's his one and only suggestion and i want it to be something we have both chosen so that means me going with it.

Well, expressing an opinion is a start I suppose. (I too have a DH who won't talk about it until near the due date)

Sounds more like a surname to me (but I am a traditionalist), so not v keen. Does it go with your other DC's names?

Hersetta · 14/07/2010 14:12

The only Peyton I know of is American and Male. Sorry, don't like it at all for a girl.

Get your DH to think again.

cremeeggs · 14/07/2010 14:16

There is a well-known American football player called Peyton Manning - only time I've ever heard the name but would put me off using the name for a girl, sorry!

Acanthus · 14/07/2010 14:19

Ew Peyton is dreadful.

Mind you, Scarlett isn't much better.

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/07/2010 14:20

Well sounding like a surname doesn't bother me (have a DS's called Harrison and James so both used as surnames!)

Apparently according to one of the few websites i have found it on it's an irish derivitive of Patricia.

Now I've thrown myself into saying 'oh great shall we find out what it means, how to spell it properly, etc etc' but how do i tell him i dont want to use his one and only suggestion?????

There was a female character in CSI:NY called Peyton and she was an English character. I don't love it, but I don't mind it and I definitely prefer it to Scarlett.

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/07/2010 14:22

OOO cremeeggs i hope that isn't where he's got it from???!!! He does like American football so would imagine he's heard of him!

Hooray for giving an opinion...
boo for bad taste though I'm afraid.

Ask him for more suggestions so you can make a shortlist, good luck.

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/07/2010 14:29

I'm just going to have to be straight with him aren't i??? It's not good.

My list is a bit.... dare i say boring though. I love the fact that he is thinking outside the box (maybe too far!) and is happy to go for somehting a bit more unusual.

diggingintheribs · 14/07/2010 14:31

Have heard it for a girl but again, only in America.

Don't like either of your choices (sorry!) but if he is suddenly showing an opinion you need to do the shortlist comparison! If you don't love it then it should be off the list (same goes if he hates Scarlett)

Think yourself lucky - dh keeps saying he doesn't like my name choices but needs some time to think about it. I'm 39 weeks!!

cremeeggs · 14/07/2010 14:31

He plays for the Indianapolis Colts I think if that helps!?!

duplotogo · 14/07/2010 14:31

Peyton is a girl character in One Tree Hill. I'm not keen, sorry.

cremeeggs · 14/07/2010 14:34

I had a "long" list of 14 names for girls. We were both convinced DD would be a DS though and were agonising over a boy's name as we just couldn't fin one we both liked.

When DD turned up I was so exhausted I handed the list to DH and said as long as he chose something off the list that would be fine - he did and whilst he didn't choose my number 1 choice (he didn't know which that was!) I'm very happy with the result. Before that he only knew which girls' names he hated rather than which ones he liked. I think he just found it too hard to imagine us having a girl....

hocuspontas · 14/07/2010 14:35

Just put it on the list then obviously ignore it later.

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/07/2010 14:36

BINGO!

It must be the One tree Hill thing! Its his guilty pleasure that he thinks i don't know about!

diggingintheribs it certainly drives you mad doesn't it! Do these men think we've got forever!

What was the name of the creepy nanny in the Hand That Rocks the Cradle?? Wasn't it Peyton??

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/07/2010 14:56

yes i think your right blue22 it's the fake name she uses to get the job

maryqueenofyachts · 14/07/2010 16:14

Peyton means "Paega's farm", not an Irish derivative of Patricia - that sounds like something an American person has made up because it begins with the same letter and all things "Irish" are really trendy over there for names, whether or not an inhabitant of Ireland would recognise them. It's a place name turned surname, now apparently turned first name.

maryqueenofyachts · 14/07/2010 16:15

ha I was just going to say One Tree Hill and then I saw your post... yeah, don't name your dd after his TV crush!

itsatiggerday · 14/07/2010 16:18

"Hand that rocks the cradle" was the first thing I thought of too. Would be enough to put me off it and provide a reason to him to think again. At least you can know that he is thinking now so he'll have to engage in a conversation!

YellowRoseofTexas · 14/07/2010 16:34

Oh gosh, I like Peyton a lot for a girl. But I'm American, so there you go.

mathanxiety · 14/07/2010 17:06

Peyton is 100% NOT Irish. It is the exact opposite of Irish, if such can be said. And imo 100% not very girly either.Number 18 here

Scarlett says Scarlet Woman to me, I'm afraid.
