Hi

I'm thinking of adding Kristen (girls name) to my shortlist, but concerned it is an american made-up name?

I think American made up name are the most likely to in the future become a chavvi or dated name.

What do you all think?

I like it. Kristal and the like sound chavvy and dated, but Kristen sounds nicer imo...

I think Kristen Scott-Thomas has given it class & legitimised it. Go for it!

maryqueenofyachts · 12/07/2010 15:31

It's not really made-up, though strictly speaking it would be Kristin (says this site:

www.behindthename.com/name/kristin)

I think it's quite nice, though I always get mixed up between Kristen and Kirsten/Kirsty.

Just checked and Kristin Scott-Thomas has an i in it, so think I'll go with that spelling, as shes English.

I better get back to work, but seem to have childrens names on the mind today.

Our 'current' shortlist is:

Girls

Marianne (nn Mari)
Nina
Eleri
Helena (nn Lena)
Kristen

Boys

Matthew
William
Daniel
Owen
Luke

I think we're going to have to wait till we meet our first child to decide on actual name though.

Thanks for all your help. I dont like discussing names with friends and family, apart from DH obviously. Much better to discuss it with strangers (much more honest).

I like Kristin a lot, and I quite like Marianne, and I think all of your boys names are quite nice although my fave is Matthew :D

Helena (nn Lena) is my name, and the only downside I'd say is that it is pronounced wrongly a lot of the time. I use Lena most of the time

I knew a few Kristins in the US and I do associate it very much with America, and women of a certain age bracket too. I agree this is the sort of name most likely to date (like Tracey, Cindy and other names that were popular in the US and hopped the pond).
I prefer Kirsten.

Helena is my favourite of your girls' names, and I love Daniel and Owen from the boys' names.
