Hi,
I am french, but I am living in England. I need your opinion for my baby name :
for girl :

  • Callista
  • Malaïka

for boy :
Tibalt
Cyprien
Dorian
Melvil
Calvin

My son's name is Travis (he is 7) and my daughter's name is Indira (she is 4).

Thank you so much for your help.

I like Callista, not so keen on Malaika.

Boys names I like Tibalt, Cyprien (although not sure of the pronunciation) and Calvin is okay.

capucine · 11/07/2010 12:54

Thank you
Cyprien, I think the prononciation is like seepryen or somethink like that, but my husbant doesn't like this one.

Ditch Dorian for a boy.

People over the age of 25 will think 'Birds Of A Feather'.

This woman

Calvin or Callista

capucine · 11/07/2010 13:36

Thank you, it's exactly what I need because I don't know about English people like that.
I thought Dorian as Dorian Grey.

Also Melvil, very like Melvin - old person very untrendy name

(really sorry to any Melvin's out there)

Love both the girls names

I do think a french boy could be a Dorian though, Birds of a Feather was so long ago I don't think it would lead to teasing as kids wouldn't be aware of it?

I think of Dorian as a girls name, if you are going to be living in England.

Saying that I know a Frenchman who lives and works near me called Maxime (similar to girls name Maxine) and as hes french its okay. Presumably your son will have an English surname so might not work so well.

I like Calvin best out of your boys name.

Not sure on either Callista or Malaika. Sorry.

I love the names Travis and Indira.

capucine · 11/07/2010 17:12

I didn't know that Dorian is a girl name, I though that is for both.
Thank you

It is for both - Dorian Gray for example in the play Portrait of Dorian Gray

mathanxiety · 11/07/2010 20:08

I love Callista, not keen on Malaika.

Also love Tibalt and Cyprien. Not keen on Calvin, Dorian or Melvil.

How about Fabien?

GladioliBuckets · 11/07/2010 21:16

Theodore's pretty cool right now, I love the French pronunciation of Théo too.

capucine · 12/07/2010 07:49

And Tybalt, do you think that can be easy for the baby to have the name Tybalt ?

OP posts:
BertieBasset · 12/07/2010 15:31

Is that pronounced Tie - balt ?

Not keen to be honest, might sound a bit harsh?

And sounds a bit like tie - belt if I have pronunciation right

GladioliBuckets · 12/07/2010 16:21

If pronounced Tibbalt, it sounds like Tibbles which is traditionally a spoilt cat's name.

mathanxiety · 12/07/2010 17:15

Wouldn't it be spelled Thibaut? Pronounced Teebo (sort of)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 12/07/2010 17:33

I love your taste in names (Indira is beautiful)

I like both the girls names, but prefer Malaika - very classy

I like Tibalt and Cyprien

dislike Melvil

Calvin is OK

capucine · 12/07/2010 18:52

I think Tybalt prononciation is more like Thibaut : as Teebalt. Not Tie

I like Callista and Calvin.
