Owlet sock and radiation risk

I suffer from very bad anxiety - to the point I was admitted for review in my pregnancy - and I was terrified of losing my LO either during or after her birth. So I decided to invest in the owlet for peace of mind after reading some great reviews.

My LO has now been wearing it for 10 months at night. However, on the off chance I noticed a comment on a Facebook post about radiation and I’ve gone down a total rabbit hole and o am devastated. I feel very silly I didn’t do enough research into the tech of it all and I am terrified I have exposed my LO to something that will eventually harm her.

Has anyone else used the Owlet? And are you aware of this?

There is no danger of radiation from a Smart Sock.

I work in electrical and electronic engineering, and the company I work for tests products for radiation.

The Smart Sock uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and neither of those technologies has anywhere near enough energy to damage cells. There is similar radiation all around us, constantly - random radio waves, infrared from the earth itself, background radon levels in the home (radon emits much higher frequency radiation than mobile phones or the Smart Sock in fact, although the overall levels are low so still not a cause for concern).

The main radiation risk to your baby, by an enormous margin, is the sun. That’s really the only thing you need to think about, in terms of radiation - just make sure your baby wears an appropriate sunscreen, and clothing and a hat (and sunglasses if possible) that will protect their skin and eyes.

The risk of radiation from the Smart Sock is absolutely negligible. You will find bogus claims online from conspiracy theorists that Wi-Fi etc. can cause cancer, but please don’t listen. Low frequency radiation such as Wi-Fi is not ionising, and cannot change or damage cells. Low frequency radiation DOES minutely heat objects up (any radiation does that - including ultrasound etc.) and you’ll find the tin-hat brigade trying to claim that causes cancer somehow - but even if it was true that heat damage to cells could cause cancer, the heat generated by the Smart Sock would literally be lower than the body’s core temperature anyway.

There is really no means by which the Sock can cause cancer, or any other problems, no matter how you look at it.

Got any peer reviewed evidence for that?
