Fractured foot and lupus

Has anyone who has lupus fractured their foot? Did they find their recovery in line with what doctors said or was the recovery slightly prolonged? Has the fracture had a longer side effect?

I tripped on the stairs last week and fractured my foot in two places, I’m really concerned I will be in pain for much longer and recovery will be more drawn out.

Any advice welcome!

nothing to do with lupus! One is a broken foot the other is an autoimmune disease 🤷‍♀️
things like feet hurt more than larger limbs as you have to be on them and the smaller bones for some reasons hurt worse🤷‍♀️ it’s only been a week so you are looking at least another 5 weeks before you start feeling it’s on the mend unfortunately. Have you got it strapped up?

The comment above clearly made by someone who doesn’t have an autoimmune disease!! You are absolutely correct OP that healing is trickier. I hope very much that your recovery is straightforward. I would personally get in touch with your lupus care team and ask for input.

Thank you, I’m concerned because of the inflammation that can happen with lupus on all joints / limbs etc.
I usually struggle with wrist pain all the time even when not in a flare up so the extra pressure on my wrists thanks to the crutches are already taking effect.
I’m not due to be seen by lupus clinic until end of June..

Not me but me mum has lupus SLE, she is mid 70s and 2 years ago (admittedly not in a flare up) slipped on holiday and broke the bottom of both leg bones just above her ankle. She didn’t take any longer to heal than the health professionals expected with that sort of injury.

i hope your recovery isn’t extended beyond what is expected of a standard foot fracture

I would definitely contact the lupus clinic, I know how hard it is getting appointments (mine is rheumatology clinic) but can you leave a message explaining the situation and saying you need guidance. Especially on the crutches issue. There may well be adaptations or physio to support your wrists through this. I’m really sympathising as I know how any health thing these days affects your whole system and I for one get very anxious about it. I hope you get the help you need x

Hi OP. Hope you’re getting on alright - I know I’m a bit late to this but just wanted to answer your query. Slightly different ( I have PsA) but I did experience slightly longer healing time following fusion surgery after a bad fracture. This was more for the bone healing / fusing but the good thing was I didn’t have any pain afterwards.

I did struggle with ordinary crutches as they were horrendous for my hands and wrists so got some special arthritis ones from Amazon. I also got a knee walker thing which took a bit of getting used to but at least took the pressure off my hands. A small trolley helped for carrying cups of tea from kitchen to sofa etc and a stool in the shower.
