A question for others with Hypothyroidism

Hi 👋🏼

I have been recently tested and found to have hypothyroidism, which came as a bolt out of the blue after thinking I was in perimenopause (age 46) with low mood and brain fog.

I have started on the usual medication 50mg. I was wondering how quickly others felt a difference after starting medication? How are your symptoms day to day now that you’re medicated and stable?

I have no idea how long I’ve had an under active thyroid as symptoms like hair loss, feeling cold, dry eyes /hair /skin, slow digestion etc I’ve had my whole adult life!

It would be good to hear others experiences. Many thanks 🙏

Join healthunlocked - the thyroid bit - there is loads of info there

Unless you are pretty unusual your 50 will need to be titrate up (much slower than necessary) by your GP to probably around 75-125

And it still may not be enough & the arguments to get T3 are horrendous

There are all sorts of vitamins/minerals uou need to have already good levels of too

I'm on a 150 have been ever since they had to remove my thyroid so roughly 8 years now and it took a while to get it up to the right amount...myum also has it but has not needed her thyroid removed and is on 100 and also has been for years as that amount works for her

It takes 6 -8 weeks for them to then recheck your levels. Then if they are not right same again. I would expect it to take months to feel a little better but unfortunately I don’t feel you ever feel 100% as the replacement is not natural. Your body isn’t getting exactly what it needs via the levothyroxine. Give it 6 months for your body to recover to what it can. Take plenty of vitamins.
look up going gluten and dairy free. The proteins are all very similar and the body can confuse and therefore react to those aswell. Have a research in it and make your own mind up. Assuming it is autoimmune that you have.
