Possible coeliac and ivf

I’m starting ivf next month and have been feeling exhausted so had some bloods done at the gp to check all ok. My IgA was normal but ttg was 51. I don’t eat a lot of gluten as am following a Mediterranean diet for ivf. The GP has referred me for biopsy but have been told in my area this may be 6-18 months. Looking online undiagnosed coeliac isn’t great for ivf outcomes but as I’m nearly 39 I can’t really put ivf on hold. Everything I’ve read says stay eating gluten until diagnosis but I don’t want to spend thousands on ivf for possible coeliac to undermine it. Would it be sensible to cut gluten and put my best efforts into ivf and re challenge gluten further down the line?

I want to start by saying that I have no qualifications in this area. However, my mum is coeliac and I have been through 4 rounds of IVF (now have 2 kids).

I would cut gluten out. I became single minded about giving the IVF as much chance as possible - nothing crazy but I did what I could.
If this won’t cause a major stress in your life and it seems relatively easy for you, go for it. The worst that will happen is….nothing and your chances of successful IVF remain unchanged. The best outcome is of course success.
Be sure to do your research and check for hidden gluten where you wouldn’t expect it or all your efforts will be in vain.
Good luck.

Thank you! I think that is what I’ll do. I feel so terrible at the moment so need to do something and see if it improves. We cook from scratch anyway and rarely eat bread or pasta so is just going to be swapping things like soy sauce and other hidden gluten items

You’ve had good advice, I’m coeliac and would say cut out gluten - remember BROWS - barley, rye, oats, wheat, spelt
avoid all of this and if I was you I would also avoid may contains.

Good luck with the ivf!

If it were me in your shoes I would go gluten free now for the sake of the IVF treatment. Once the treatment is done you can always relook at going back on gluten for a formal diagnosis.

Normally I'd say to keep eating normally until diagnosis but you're on a time crunch here and coeliac disease affects fertility so I would definitely go gluten free now and give yourself the best chance to ivf to work. My mum was diagnosed with coeliac disease because it had affected her fertility, once her body recovered after going gluten free she was able to conceive.
