I often have sore dry patches on my eye lids but it has progressed. My eyes are so sore I’ve tried everything I can think of, moisturiser, salon, sudocrem, nothing, steroid cream(yes I know not supposed to be used on eyes but I am desperate) I have autoimmune conditions. I take regular prescription antihistamines and haven’t changed anything so doubt it’s an allergy. I don’t wear make up.
any suggestions

That looks so sore. I think you need to see a dr about it.

LilacRos · 01/09/2025 21:39

It does look a bit like eczema which often goes alongside autoimmune. Have you seen a GP or NP?

coeliacsucks · 01/09/2025 21:39

I’ve got an appointment next week, I’ve already been waiting for 3 weeks!

Really interested to know how things go for you, as I have started to get the same. Been going on now for 6 months.
have tried so many things and nothing seems to help.

Have you tried sea buckthorn oil capsules? They are excellent for all dry skin I tried them to help my sjorgrens and found they also helped in other dry areas as well

I’m in the same boat, I have psoriasis. So fed up of sore scales flaking skin around my eyes.

Body shop hemp cream has helped but not got rid of it.

Can you ask for a course of steroid tablets to treat auto immune conditions?

coeliacsucks · 02/09/2025 09:38

I have no idea but I’ll definitely ask when at the GP thanks for the suggestion.

They are reluctant to give them, but it will cure your eyes.
Creams are useless as you’ve proven because you’ve tried them for a long time. . This condition comes from “within”

I've had something like this and it was disproportionately sore and irritating so I feel for you. My pharmacist gave me some tea tree wipes - I'm sorry, I can't remember the name - and they cured it within a day or two.

LilacRos · 02/09/2025 15:15

Have you been using OTC steroid cream? If so it's probably just not strong enough and a prescription strength may work.
I don't know what drugs you take for your auto immune disease but oral steroids while useful are difficult to stop.

Been to gp today they are doing bloods as they suspect lupus or polymyostitis. They have given me a very gentle face wash/cream to use in the mean time.

I get this and it is periorbital dermatitis. Steroids worsen it. Tacrolimus ointment from your GP completely cleared mine up after so long of struggling with it.

I’ve had this on and off for years. It’s horrible.

Agree with PP on trying tacromilus ointment. I bought some Protopic 0.1% cream from an online pharmacy which I think is similar, it worked really well.

other things that helped:

  • Fexofenadine 180mg in the morning
  • Wash eyes twice a day with baby shampoo
  • Opticrom 2% Eye Drops in the morning
  • Moisturize with hydrosil dry eye gel
