My son (4) has had a blood tests for celiac disease and I’m waiting for the results. Does anyone know how long the results take? X

My daughter had a test this week, I was told a week, two max.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 10/06/2025 21:51

It's a postcode lottery I'm afraid. If they're positive he'll need a second round of bloods to confirm. It took us 6 months from first GP visit to diagnosis in total.

Poonu · 10/06/2025 21:53

Ours took about a week. It's taken me about a year to adjust but it will be okay. Good luck. It's lucky they tested lots of children suffer a long time.

Poonu · 10/06/2025 21:54

Adjust in the sense of what brands to buy etc.

As a positive view for you, my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed age 4. She's bossed her diagnosis. Nothing is impossible as a food, it just needs planning time.

For child or adult? X

Thank you, I’m panicking a bit. He loves food and thought of saying no to all his favourites when he is so young is worrying me. Also eating out, and abroad. We have McDonalds every couple of months and he gets sooo excited, looks like that would be a no go (obviously that sounds minor but he is so young to explain it to) x

I know a few people with coeliac that still eat at mcdonalds, the fries and a mcflurry(obviously depending on what chocolate is mixed in with it) and a milkshake. Also a burger with no bun. Mcdonalds can't guarantee cross contamination but it might be ok x

Poonu · 10/06/2025 23:20

We don't go McDonald's often but now my daughter is obsessed with sushi. In fact it is made us healthier as a family personally I'm much more interested in nutrition.
