Coeliac? Other conditions? Help!

I have been tested for coeliac before a few times and even upped my wheat intake. I had a private blood that showed I have a wheat allergy. I have close family members that are coeliac

However if I do eat wheat; I get so tired within 1 hour, then a few hours later I get bloating, stomach pain and loose stools. Occasionally it’s so painful I vomit. Before we worked this out I could vomit 1-2 times a week and felt sick often.

I am being testing for multiple miscarriages and they mentioned autoimmune conditions. I do occasionally get low platelets (related to pregnancy and they drop as soon as I get a positive test) and I have bouts of tiredness that last 4-6 weeks but then resolve, it’s like my immune system is through the floor during this time.

Does it sound like I could have an autoimmune condition? I have had a blood test and it didn’t show anything in my bloods.

Just curious if there is anything causing my miscarriages? I have a consultant appointment in a few weeks and would like to ask questions so any suggestions welcome 🤗

Did you have thyroid blood tests? Ask for results if so and make sure TSH is close to 1.0 otherwise this can cause problems during pregnancy. Autoimmune hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's) is commonly found with coeliac disease too.

I went to my GP and asked for a full panel blood test that subsequently revealed that I had hypothyroidism which in 90% of cases is the autoimmune version. That is commonly cited if someone is experiencing tiredness (my tiredness was really bad. I would literally crash 3pm each day).

I saw a private endocrinologist who separately tested for coeliac. This is because coeliac and thyroid disorders are commonly found together. The advice given to me was that even if the test is negative (and the test is known for not being highly accurate) to avoid gluten. There is a theory that the antibodies cannot distinguish between gluten and thyroid hormone as the structures are similar. This results in flare-ups of inflammation in the body as the antibodies start attacking the thyroid gland.l thinking they are detecting thyroid hormone which they don’t like!

You must always get copies of your blood tests. Don’t let them just tell you ‘in range - all okay’. Have a look where you fall in the range.

If you have results for a full panel , the thyroid section is ‘TSH’ and ‘T4’. I think it is now standard for GP to test thyroid levels in pregnancies. You’re wanting to see a TSH of 2 or below and T4 high in the range.

I had 9 rounds of ivf before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease and a miscarriage from the second round. During this time I had extra testing that determined I had immune issues. The only cycles that worked were the ones where I was prescribed steroids (prednisone) on top of the ivf. I'm convinced my fertility problems were because of my undiagnosed coeliac disease. I had been tested regularly for 15 years by my GP but always tested negative and only diagnosed eventually by duodenal biopsy. Turns out I'm sero negative coeliac.

Untreated hypothyrodisim can cause miscarriages. You'd need to get a full thyroid panel which includes TSH, FT4, FT3 and TPO and TG antibodies.

Just checked my thyroid test added the results, they are within the range but are these lower end?

That looks like tending more towards hyperthyroidism, you need to know T4 result as well to see if thyroid working harder.
