Thyroid endocrinologist

I am looking for recommendations for an Endocrinologist specialising in hyperthyroidism.

To cut a long story short I don't believe my NHS Endocrinologist is offering advice that's in my best interest.

Me and my DH would like to try for a baby this year and I would like to go into this journey having seen a doctor f2f and feeling armed with all the information to make this journey as safe as possible.

TIA

Hey, I have an NHS endocrinologist, isn't worth the piece of paper she's qualified on.
I'm now up to 300mcg of levothyroxine, I have Hashimoto's disease and my thyroid is literally failing and they do not give a monkeys. I feel crap 24/7, she just keeps upping my meds which come with nasty side effects

Following this thread and sending love. X

@Mygravesandme the British Thyroid Foundation has lots of good advice.

I was diagnosed with severe graves more than 30 years ago. I was at thatbtime getting engaged. The NHS then, and private practitioners were really pushing radio iodine therapy. I don't think that's now recommended. Because I wanted to start a family and wanted my graves as controlled as possible, I had a sub-total thyroidectomy. Subsequently I have taken 100mcg of thyroxine daily, increasing to 112.5 post menopause. I have had no problems.

During pg it is essential to have the TSH regularly tested and it is now recommended to increase thyroxine if necessary. I would request consultant led care because in my experience the midwives have limited understanding.

At the time I had a private endocrinologist who listened. To titrate the dose in relation to optimal outcomes taking other conditions into account, I saw an endocrinologist privately. There are some good ones.

To achieve optimal understanding and optimal care I think you will have to do your own research and pay for some expert advice from a consultant.

Good luck.

I was also on 300 mcg levothyricine. I now take 175 mg and 4x5mcg liiothyronine (t3)2 am and 2 pm. That and taking very high dose vitamin D, 50, 000 IU daily made a massive difference to me. I had to take these enormous D for 9 months as I was so deficient. I feel significantly better now. Am not if UK Dr will prescribe t3, but it was a game changer for me. I was diagnosed in UK but now live abroad . Hope you feel better
