Too much Levothyroxine?

I have hashimotos. My dose was upped to 100mcg in the last few months of my pregnancy and they've kept me on this dose since she was born in March. Prior to pregnancy I was on 50mcg and was put on 75mcg when I told them I was expecting.
Has anyone got experience on being on too high of a dose of Levothyroxine? What symptoms did you have? My TSH was around 0.37 at my most recent blood test. I'm on 100mcg which has been lowered today to 75mcg. I feel poorly - hard to explain. Irritable, awful aching in my neck, shoulders and back. My head feels horribly heavy, headaches constantly, struggle to feel present in conversations, brain fog, fatigue, angry & hot! I feel like I've been poisoned essentially! Please say someone else has experienced this and felt better once the dose was reduced? I feel like I'm going mad and I don't know what else this could be 😭 Thank you. X

When my 100mcg was upped to 125mcg after a couple of weeks I just felt jittery. It was obvious the dose was too high.

Are you sure you are not just exhausted post partum?

No this feels completely different than I've ever felt before. She's my second too so I've been through the exhaustion stage and this is worse. I also feel really anxious. x

OP@Emmasian94 what is your T4 level and ranges (and T3 levels if they test that…I highly recommend full blood testing as not everyone is well on levo alone and many need a T3 containing med to acheive good health)? Thyroid meds should never be dosed according to tsh alone. Post pregnancy is well known for sending thyroids even more wonky! I don’t know how old you are, after my second child (at age 40 ) it pretty much tipped me into peri menopause.

Thank you for your reply! I definitely need to get a more thorough blood test it seems. They have only ever medicated according to my TSH levels. I'm still trying to educate myself :(
I'm 30 and have been diagnosed with hashimotos for two years. This is the lowest my tsh has ever been and I feel dreadful.

@Emmasian94 its pretty horrible isn’t it, there’s a lot of useful stuff out there on the internet ( particularly from the US) that makes you realise that thyroid is really badly managed in the uk. A good uk site is www.thyroiduk.org. There’s a lot you can do eg, dietary changes ( gluten free/dairy free/ soy free for starters) that can also help long term but I’m sure at the mo there’s enough going on . If things don’t settle asap please do see your GP…sometimes people with hashis can have an acute swing from hypo to hyperthyroid that can be triggered by eg. giving birth or having an infection.

Yes, upped from 150, a dose I had been on for years, to 175 following a blood test, but 175 was far too high. I felt ill in a way I couldn't really explain - but do remember really fatigued yet wired and anxious, all at the same time. The brain fog was also awful, and randomly my vision felt odd and blurry although that may have been the anxiety. I felt like I had been drugged.

As soon as my levels stabilised, for me, and I was back on 150, I felt myself again, although it took some months.

Usual symptoms of too much are an increased heart rate, palpitations, sweating, jittery, anxious, too much energy, difficulty sleeping for me.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 04/11/2024 23:15

I was upped from 75 to 100 and I felt jittery, heart palpitations, weird jelly legs and arms every now and then.

It was then lowered to 100 every other day with 75 in between and I feel it's perfect.

My concentration was shot to shit too. I was experiencing ADHD type symptoms.

Mine has just been upped to 300mcg.
I haven't been able to get under 200mcg for about 8 years. I'm 30, and had thyroid disease since I was 14. Mine has been poorly controlled since diagnosis.
I'm more worried about the effects on my bones and heart, as GP said higher the dose higher those risks.
It's all scary I try my best not to think about it. I'd rather have the blasted thing removed.

I'm on 225mcg. Before menopause I was on 100mcg and felt fine but going through menopause made mine go haywire.
