Hi

Feeling a bit desperate for information on ppls experience of thyroiditis after pregnancy.

Had my 3rd baby 11 weeks ago and about 8 weeks PP I had this huge surge in anxiety started getting hot flushes, night sweats, hair falling out, zero appetite (lost just under a stone in 6 weeks), constantly feeling on edge of a panic attack. Gp though postpartum anxiety but I felt it was something more. Long story short and 2 positive menopause tests later GP ref me for some bloods and discovered I have overactive thyroid induced by pregnancy.

My results were as follows
T4 - 24
TSH <0.03
Thyroid Peroxidase >1300 (normal is 60)

I've been sent for an urgent referral to endocrinology but urgent here is a 6 to 8 week wait. I am thinking of going private for treatment.

I just dnt feel well, and I'm starting to panic a bit and read into things. I've read that TPO result that high indicates surgery may be required to remove.

I'm also aware with PP Thyroiditis you can switch from hyper to hypo. What do i need to loook amout for and can this happen quite quickly? This evening instead of hot flushes I am freezing, I woke up last night with a niggling pain in my throat, I feel exhausted, like I'm dragging myself around because I have no choice to because I have little ones to care for.
Feel quite down too and exhausted and achey. Can't even say it's baby either because he is an absolute angel 💓

Has anyone else had this and what was it like for you? I have found very little information about ppls experience only clinical information in regards to symptoms

TIA

Hi @Danza82 I’m going through similar at the moment too, also very anxious as I haven’t had mine confirmed with the antibody test yet, around 5 to 6 months post partum I had a racing heart, extreme anxiety, sweating and bad migraines which eventually I saw gp about had no idea that I was hyperthyroid, all new to me. I’m also waiting an urgent appointment but been told 6 weeks! I did a private consultation but been told could be temporary post partum or graves and praying it’s the first one, I’m stuck waiting really , the other day I did a private blood test and to me it looks like my levels may be going hypo so I’m hopeful! This is my second baby, never had any problems with my first! I’ve also had a sore throat on and off, I don’t think you would need thyroid removed if it’s the post partum one as this type thankfully does usually resolve from what I was told, hope you start to feel better soon! I was told if my heart raced too much I could have temporary propranolol from the gp x

Diagnosed with this after my first baby- 22 years ago. Still have under active thyroid but well controlled. Felt very tired and actually developed a goitre . Responded well to thyroxine and went on to have 2 more children so didn't affect fertility.

Those test results are enough to feel very out of whack! I've had graves disease before which went into remission after a course of medication. I can definitely sympathize....you'll feel loads better once this gets treated properly. Anxiety was my main symptom BTW.

I've now got post partum thyroiditis which isn't too surprising but I'm past a very brief hyper stage and into a hypo one! Bodies are strange things...

How are you going now OP?
