Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster and all that jazz

I was diagnosed with UC back in 2011 and have had the usual hospital admissions and the shit that comes with having UC.

I've not had any problems for a few years but I had some bloods done a couple of weeks ago which showed my hba1c levels were at 65 (normal range is 20-41) and my liver serum alt levels at 229 (normal should be 10-35). The GP believes it is due to a flare, as my levels have never been this high and made me do a stool sample. I've also now got tachycardia and high bp.

So, that has come back and my calprotectin level has come back at 342, when the normal range should be 0-50.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I'm worried that something serious is going on, as he's also done an urgent referral to my gastro team but also the liver team now.

Hba1c would normally be diabetic related. Sadly once you get one autoimmune condition you are more prone to getting others ime. No idea about the bp or tachycardia though.

for my dd her raised fecalcalprotectin was coeliac. Does the dr think your levels are due to a flare?

could your symptoms have more than one cause?

Your calprotectin isn't that high for someone that has IBD they should request another one to see if its rising or not

Sorry to hear about all your problems. The previous poster is right that you are at greater risk of other autoimmune conditions; I have Crohn's and type 1 diabetes. But with recent flare ups, I would wonder have you been on steroids? They can make you more insulin resistant and put you on a path to developing type 2 diabetes. I would hope your GP will investigate further.
